Travel? No. I can recall only a two times in my parenting life (nearly 8 years) where the kids were without either myself or my wife for any extended period of time... and both involved a sibling being born.

Maybe when they are older? But, I kind of have to question that as well. My parents took a vacation once when I was a junior in high school. They went away for a week. My brother was away in college, so it was just me. It was sort of weird to be alone. I was responsible though. I had school and work. And of course I turned the music up real loud

However, a year after that, they made another trip and my brother threw a party for some friends. Thankfully it didn't get out of hand, but some serious damage could have been done and my parents would have been responsible for. And we weren't necessarily responsible teenagers ourselves... so I don't know if I'd do that.

But I suppose at some point you have to let them fly and see what happens when given that freedom.
