Not a parent, but two brothers and one was snipped. He was because we found out he was autistic in the womb and they felt it'll be better to help him keep clean. The other isn't and he doesn't care. I did ask when he was learning about it in class (baby development and they brought this up) and he just joked about it and said he's cool with it.
Can't say for myself, I wasn't born with a trunk, but if I have a son I wouldn't want him to be cut. He should make that decision if he ever wants to be.
There is NO way to find out a child is autistic when he is in the womb, so something doesn't make sense. There is no genetic test for autism and no way to dx it until the child is older (15 to 18 months at the earliest).
we had to endure a Nurse who loved to use the word "mutilation" in an effort to bully us into making a different choice. That experience served a clear indicator as to how strongly some people feel about this issue, and how brazen they will be in trying to force their decision on you.
I have the sense that the majority of those who have really strong opinions against male circumcision tend to be women. Men seem more blase about the whole thing.
Its not barbaric. Sex with a circumcised man feels better to women. Men who were snipped in mid life say it feels better to them also, something about friction.

It may not be barbaric, but it is usually a purely cosmetic and medically unnecessary procedure for a newborn infant. I don't really care one way or the other what other couples choose, but let's be honest about why it's done, which has everything to do with the parents' religious convictions and/or anxieties and pretty much nothing to do with a baby boy's health.

Yes, I was just about to post the same thing.
It makes sense on some level, and while I hadn't thought about it, I could see someone choosing to circumcise a son with Down Syndrome or another condition that can be prenatally diagnosed so that it would be one less thing to worry about in terms of hygiene. But since autism isn't currently something that is diagnosed in utero (maybe eventually there will be a genetic test?), that aspect didn't make sense.
In any case, I think that anecdotes on both sides go back to the statement I made earlier that the vast majority of boys/men are happy with their penis and OP's son will be fine either way.

BUT BUT.. from personal experience non-circumcised males end up with multiple difficulties... AS a new-born.. having that loose skin tagging remain exponentially leads to high costs Medially.. and given American's medical costs.. sometimes prevention is far better in then end!!
Not ALL uncircumcised males run into issues.. but percentage sure does explain it. Beyond Necessity as some want to proclaim. No one should ever DEMAND either decision.. BUT those claiming being " Un-circircumsized" is better, MAYBE look at DATA/STATS or better yet.. use your own common sense or experience!!
There is some evidence that circumcision has health benefits, including:
Quote:
A decreased risk of urinary tract infections.
A reduced risk of some sexually transmitted diseases in men.
Protection against penile cancer and a reduced risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners.
Prevention of balanitis (inflammation of the *****) and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the ***** and foreskin).
Prevention of phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin) and paraphimosis (the inability to return the foreskin to its original location).
Circumcision also makes it easier to keep the end of the penis clean.
I'm sure that there be some who swear non-circumcised is better.. BUT medically.. experience wise have never ever seen one man have any medical issues due to it!! But have experienced hundreds +++ who did in many age groups!! Meanwhile.. females really don't give a SH$t either way!!

The rate of phimosis in uncircumcised men is about 1%. Paraphimosis is about the same. In other words, pretty uncommon.

That's what I was told and he clearly came out different. I vaguely remember doctors and nurses in and out of our house at a young age and, reading doctors notes, he wasn't supposed to live past two. So you could've PM'd me about this particular concern of yours, rather than acting like what I said was scientific fact.
So regardless, I don't really know the specifics of WHEN the realized he was but it was clear he was immediately and he was cut as soon as he was born.

It's not a *concern of mine.* It is a scientific fact. My grandson has autism. There is no in utero test for autism at this point. There might be in the future.
Whatever he had, it was not known to be autism in the womb. Also, autism is generally not a death sentence with the child not living past age 2. While it is true that autistic people have a less than average life span, that is usually not due to their autism, but to other conditions that they may have. They also commit suicide more often due to being bullied.
The general population, according to the Autistica report, also tends to have better overall health than people with ASD.
People with ASD may experience a variety of medical problems, such as gastrointestinal disorders. However, one of the most common is heart disease.
There’s no scientific evidence to explain why this condition is so common with autism, but Fournier says stress may have a lot to do with it.
Bullying may lead to feelings of alienation. Other people with ASD may experience sensory overload and sensitivity to noise and bright light.
The stress of engaging with other people or going on a job interview may also be overwhelming.
