You sound more annoyed than concerned for your daughter. It sounds like this whole thing is just a big hassle for you when you should be doing everything possible to get your daughter help and intervention.

Why aren't you at IEP meetings? Seriously, you can't even be bothered to know what their plan and outline for instruction are? Really?? And, yes, some places are better at diagnosing these issues than others. So sorry if you have to drive a whole 45 minutes to get her the best care. I mean it's only your daughter, right? You seem to not be bothered at all by the fact that your daughter is struggling. And you seem to not be willing to do much to help her. That makes me sad for her.

BTW, Aspergers Syndrome is not even a diagnosis anymore. It is diagnosed under Autism Spectrum Disorder now.

We drive 2 hours (each way) every 4 weeks to take one of our children to a specialist. We have a "good enough" hospital with "ok" specialists in the area...but 2 hours away is an excellent one. Why wouldn't we go to the best when it comes to our child who is really struggling? I can see if means were severely limited. Then you do the best you can. But 45 minutes is not unreasonable for quality mental health care. And some agencies and hospitals are TERRIBLE in mental health. Be glad they gave you a heads up.

Especially for a 1-time eval. I drove 45 minutes each way for a 3-part evaluation. It was worth it.

In regards to the issue with Least Restricted Environment, I'll bet that's what the IEP requires. Which would be known if it was bothered to be read.

No, not necessarily.

You'd be surprised how many schools don't do the right thing with regard to SPED. Do you agree with the school or not? You say she should be in a less restrictive environment, but you say you assume they know what they're doing. Which is it?

You let them do what they want and don't even attend the IEP meetings? YOU DON'T ATTEND THE IEP MEETINGS???

You need to get invested in your child's well being and be her advocate. It sounds like you don't care. Start by attending the IEP meetings. Schedule one ASAP, if you don't have one coming up. Get a 3rd opinion about the Aspergers. Get a SPED advocate that knows the ins and outs of the process. Learn about what accommodations help kids like your daughter and insist they be put in place and followed.
First I have no opinion on the schools decisions as they have experience with many kids like her, but I am not a professional. It's the therapist who thought this class was too restrictive. Maybe she has seen kids who were more disabled than my daughter in general education classrooms. I don't know. But I highly doubt a school would want to spend extra money in a self-contained classroom.

The reason I don't attend meetings is because they repeat my daughter's issues which I already know about. I still read her IEP. I never question the schools decisions because as I said, they are professionals, I am not.

I also said a self contained classroom costs more money. Not only that LRE is the law. If they put a child in a self contained classroom that means the child really needs it.

Don't sell yourself short, My son's 3rd grade teacher and a school counselor set me and my husband down and said that per their experience my son has add, of course we took him to see a child psychologist and she tested him and no he didn't have it, the year before one claimed he was autistic and no he wasn't. He also did not turn in his homework half the time.

He is now a grown man who went to college, is working and has a family. It scares me to think where he would be if we listened to a few teachers. You know your child and she needs you to be there at those meetings.
