I have an 8 year old and cannot imagine any of her classmates doing anything like this. How very sad. What will those kids be like in 10 years when they can cause some serious damage?

You can't be your kids' friends!
That horrible incident is one reason why parents can't be their kids' friends. Parents must be their kids' parents. Parents have the authority to teach their kids right from wrong by rewarding and punishing accordingly. In this day and age, it is already necessary for parents to ask their kids, especially teenagers, who, what, when, and where to make sure the kids aren't doing drugs or getting into other mischief. Parental involvement surely would have prevented those naughty kids from bringing a knife or duct tape to school.

Maybe it wasn't a good idea for them to watch "Lord of the Flies" as part of a class project.

This is very scary, hope they all get lots of counseling. Something is very terrible when they are able to plot their actions as such a young age. That's the most startling part.
