I'm not going to say why I'm asking this because I don't want to completely hijack the thread into taking another direction, but I think that it's easy enough to deduce just why this question is somewhat pertinent to the subject of bodily modifications...

In terms of nipple piercing and the breastfeeding of any future progeny: other than needing to remove the jewelry up to the point of weaning, successful breastfeeding isn't overly affected by nipple piercings other than getting an initial good latch might prove to be a bit challenging.

It's amazing to me how one fly by poster can cause such a stir several years after having made his one lonely post!

First, I'd assume that this was one of the mildly provocative things my daughter occasionally says to get a rise out of myself* or her mother, without any actual intent or even interest in getting a piercing.

[*I never play along, so it doesn't work]

Second, were it genuine, I'd wonder why she was asking me. My wife and I raised our children to act like adults once they were adults, not to ask mom or dad if it's okay that they exercise a basic elements of bodily autonomy.

I worried, and I worry, about my children (who are all in their mid-20s now). But piercings were one thing I have never worried about, because they don't really matter - especially ones I'll never see.

In my opinion, this is quintessentially a first world problem.

She is an adult , and she would not have to tell anyone. Why is she announcing what is basically a very private decision. Unless she is a semi-pro dancer. ( not putting it down I don't judge).

Unless the family are nudists or something, how would they know?
