News: Teacher gets probation in sex case (teaching, 14 year old, student)

Teresa Engelbach, 22, was sentenced today to pay a $5,000 fine and two years of probation after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with a student.

$5,000 i fines! How rediculous is that! We have threads about men as sexual predators and being suspicious for even looking at kids play, and we have god knows how many women abusing kids in schools now who dont do jail time, get probation, house arrest and now a $5k fine ? Am I the only one that thinks it was a male teacher and female student the whole country would be up-in-arms calling for his head ?

Why do we have double standards for our teachers ?
Why does this happen over and over and over and over again ?

Seems to me though that it was focused more on the statutory rape issue, rather than the teacher issue... (At least that's how the article made it seem)

Every judge has to treat every case individually... Of course it would be different if it were a 40 year old teacher and a 14 year old student... But being as she's 22 (8 years difference) I guess they didn't see it a total need to give her 10 years...

And yes, agreed... If it were male teacher/female student, it'd would've ended up different... But... what can you say. Sexist society.

As far as statutory laws though, I think they're a little overboard... You've heard of people actually IN relationships getting convicted right? Not that I condone sex for youngsters, but if it's consentual, I see no need in convicting a 19 year old sleeping with a 17 1/2 year old if they're in a relationship and consenting... That 17 year old can go to war next year but doesn't have the capacity to consent for sex eh...? Bit illogical to me...

Yes, I know, this article was about a 14 year old... Just had myself going on about something else there... lol.

But still... you'd think that 14 year old is now bragging to everyone in school about the hot 22 year old teacher he just did...

Because she's kind of hot and the student was one lucky stiff, that's why.

I mean, c'mon guys. When you were 14 or 15, what would you have given to make the beast with two backs with a certifiable hottie like that?

So, double standard or not, the court went easy on her.

Yes ive heard all the jokes of why werent they teaching when I was in school, which is fine but I still wouldnt want a grown woman touching my 14 year old boy.
There have been several LONG threads on male "predators" and many women are very vocal about it but none have weighed in or pass over it when its the opposite way around.

Yes. They were jokes.

Actually, I remember being fifteen and having a German teacher who was hotter than flowing lava and 22. She was always touching me, too. But I was too naive to really understand what was happening. Three years later, after graduation, she came up to me to say goodbye, and asked me to call her over the summer.

By that point, I knew what she was all about but, for some reason, I was too high and mighty to take her up on it. I always wondered what she would have been like.
