I think you're the first I've heard of a kid not liking texting.

He's dyslexic. It's torture for him.

I text with my two kids and husband every day... my kids text me to let me know they got to school OK (they ride their bikes), or to ask if they can go to a friends house after school, or to give me a friends number so I can call their parents or whatever... also just to say I love you!

We also use the VZ Navigator program on our phones. When they go to a friends house they send me the mapped address of where they are. I even get the longitude and latitude coords of their location - even the elevation! It's nice so if they need me to pick them up, my phone will tell me where to go - giving me step by step directions and even a phone number. It's really cool.

They also have the chaperone program on their phones... we always know where they are - or at least where their phone is!

Sometimes it's the only way to get them to respond. I don't know how many voice mail messages we've left with no response. For some reason they answer text messages almost immediately.

my mom and I text back and forth- it's nice for quick questions and she's always got her crackberry with her and I've always got my phone so it's nice especially since i've been away at college. We still talk on the phone though but it's nice when a full out convo isn't neccesary or when I'm in class or the library where it wouldn't be okay to whip out a phone and start talking.
