Please.
This study is forgetting something. Blacks now come from all over the world and culture is the driver, not color (colour in Canada). Let's see: last year I was out to a lumber plant in Alberta and aside from the age factor (17 to 60) the countries "blacks" represented were Chad and Sudan and now South Sudan, Ethiopia (including Somalia which is a tribal area), Bahamas, France, Kenya, South Africa..........
whew! The barrier was all culture and work ethic, functional literacy, followed distantly by "wanguage."
Kids would probably adapt better than the adults.

No equality is acknowledgement and acceptance of differences, whether they be cultural, racial, ethnic, whatever.

Nope. Race is a social construct. Skin color requires no more training than explaining the role of melanin in our various genetic makeups as Americans.

Somalia is not a tribal area of Ethiopia. It's a nation bordering Ethiopia.

Dealing with the inherent outcomes of that social construct needed to be taught though.

My brother is mixed race (Filipino and White) but appears black. The color blind approach would not have taught him what he needs to be happy, successful and safe. Even in his liberal north eastern town.

This.

Most people who ignore the problems caused by color-blindness are usually white themselves. They don't understand because they lack the experience of being a POC in a world that is NOT color-blind.

Parents raising children of a different race should be as well-informed as possible, or it can create problems for the child. They should also be empathetic that when it comes to race, the child may feel they can never relate. Many adoptees have spoke out about the complexities of this experience (regardless of the love we have for our families), but we are such a minority that it is hard to be heard.

Really, it is a minor inconvenience that is in the best interests of the child.

Race may be a social construct, but unfortunately because of that it is not as simple as melanin/genetics. Social beliefs/expectations WILL impact them. If your child experiences race dysphoria like many adoptees have, how will a biology lesson on melanin or invalidating their feelings by pushing color-blindness help?

The OP is nearly five years old and the original link no longer works. I can't take an article that talks about "whites" seriously anyway.

YES, they do, look at the recent news story mother whose adopted black son was called the n word and then slapped by a guy on an airplane. I have no issue with interracial adoption but parents need to be aware of the issues their children are going to face in this world.

Racism is still very much alive. There is a story in the news now about a father who told a hospital his white son was not to be attended to by any black nurses and then showed his swatistka tattoo. These are the things blacks experience in this country. Anyone adopting a black child needs to be aware of it so they can teach their child how to handle and respond to it.

Also from personal experience my husband was working with a foster family of whites who took in three black kids. He said it was a horrible match up and there was a lot of cultural miscommunication so much so that they had to move the kids to another family.

I definitely think cultural training for interracial adoptions should be a requirement regardless of the race be it Asian, hispanic, or any other race.

Isn't that what the adoptive parents are doing?

Not if they pretend the world they live in is color-blind & believe they are above educating themselves on potential issues their child might face regarding race, culture, ethnicity, or being adopted by someone of a different race, culture, or ethnicity.

Denial is not acceptance or acknowledgement.
