I was spanked as a kid. With a paddle on my butt. It certainly was a deterrent for me and I learned to avoid behavior that guaranteed punishment! It got my attention!

I grew up in the days when not spanking your children was looked on as being a bad parent and I took on that same viewpoint myself, but since watching Super Nanny and Super Nanny USA I've completely changed my mind.

Spanking is like using a sledgehammer to pound in a nail. It usually gets the job done, but it causes collateral damage too.

If you have young children and have any sleeping, eating, homework, or any other issues I would advise you to look into "Super Nanny USA" and "Jo Frost: Extreme Parental Guidance" episodes on YouTube. The older show, "Super Nanny" is good too, but nowhere as good as those other tow shows.

On "Extreme Parental Guidance" Jo goes way beyond discipline issues and helps children and teens with many other issues. I only wish these shows had been around when my children were young.
