Our school requires learning a musical instrument.
I would like to see them spend more time on computers. Typing and communication skills also top my list. Some kids can't write a letter, or speak in an appropriate manner. I taught my kids how to speak on the phone; so many parents don't. I guess that overlaps with manners.

I wish finances and economics were taught. Like how interest works, how to balance a checkbook, how credit card co works, what credit scores are all about.

Also I think foreign languages should be introduced much earlier!

And as brook says above, communication manners!!

Foreign language should be started in elementary school (as it is in many other countries)

My daughter went to a private where foreign language was started in pre-k and now she is fluent in 3 languages. We'e moving to a city that does not have such an international private school - and we're pretty dissapointed.

Oh! I also wish they would teach more about the political process. My son was in 4th grade this year, a G&T program, and learned more about the political process than I did at 30!

Our school starts language in kindergarten. I think it's easier to learn when it's introduced earlier rather than later.

Personal finance and economics.

It is absolutely amazing how many people I have encountered in my life that know NOTHING about personal finance. It's sad when the subject of retirement accounts comes up and they say... "no, I don't put money into an IRA/401K... that's what Social Security is for...". Yikes. Now, I'll be teaching my girls about money but it seems like Americans as a whole is having issues with basic money management skills.

I wish schools would teach markmanship, gun safety and skeet shooting.

having kids knowing about firearms and the damage they can do would be a big step toward alot of kids know what not to do and what to do when they are around firearms.
