Miralax is now over the counter...my daughter still takes it if there are serious bouts of constipation... a little does wonders... tasteless powder you put in drinks... but I know you said you don't want medicinal remedies....
My daughter had horrible issues with this for several years. You can use mineral oil- it is disgusting and a last resort...
Also- GRAPE JUICE/ APPLE CIDER- they seem to do wonders- prune juice as well as prunes... cherries too... Keep away from dairy- believe it or not it can cause constipation....
Agree with this. Juices seem to get things moving.
Make sure your child drinks plenty of water. And give him prunes, like the other poster suggested.
You can get gylcerine suppositories at drug stores, they are good to use too.
My daughter has occasional issues with this as well, and a few days of drinking prune juice in the morning and before bed (and no milk on these days) usually straightens her right out.
My daughter would eat Cracklin' Oat Bran for a snack/cookie... it tastes delicious and they if you let them load up with some cider... if it is the onset of constipation... you should be fine...
If your son is only 4 I wouldn't give him any medications unless you check with his doctor first. I've tried the glycerine supositories before and they worked well.
Lots of juice, water, fresh fruits and veggies work great. Definately prunes and raisins!! If he gets in the habit of eating a lot of fruits and veggies now, hopefully this won't be a re-occuring problem for you guys!
