I started giving my daughter apple juice at 2 months per dr. order for constipation. After several months when we added more foods to her diet, she wouln't go as much as easily as before. So I gave her an ounce of prune juice in a full bottle of formula. THat ALWAYS did the trick. Later she would drink it straight from her bottle. I think she knew how much it helped her.
Good Luck.
No-one's mentioned the first thing I think of when "home remedies" are mentioned because it was the subject of so much fear and dread when I was little - the soap-sliver suppository!
A cheap alternative to glycerin suppositories (if you use a plain glycerin soap) and dulcolax ones (if you use an unscented ivory-type soap).
The thing to remember is: don't use any soap with artificial perfumes for laxative purposes. Because - though they don't "poison" you, as some people imagine - they will severely irritate/inflame the rectum.
We use juice. But when it is really bad, we use gummy bears that you buy at the grocery store by the scoop in the area where they have nuts, chocolate, and sweets in bin that scoop and bag.

So you're actually suggesting the mom shove a sliver of soap up her child's butt??
It's summer! Watermelon has fiber and water so it's perfect for kids constipation issues. Actually any melon that the kid will eat.
