Yeah New York has great air quality....and I guess u have never been to Las Vegas or Miami or Florida to see open containers on the street. I asked for stats that show how many deaths are from second hand smoke is what I asked for..not the stats to show if its bad or not..I have heard plent of them dont care about them because I think it all has to do with the government...show me where people have died from it thats what I want to see.....I live in Utah where alcohol contents are alot less than any other state which is the only good part about living here..i won't defend this state what so ever..not from here transplanted here unfortunately

Uh... you do realize MIAMI is IN Florida right? And Vegas is the sin capital of the world... open containers aren't the only thing legal there...

I gave you stats... you demanded the stats...I provided them... remember that thing called Google? Might actually help if you read some of them... all you have to do is click on the link... all the work has been done for you... now all you have to do is put those reading glasses on...

And, isn't this thread about smoking? Yet you continue to bring up perfume and drinking... hmmmmmmm......

And the air quality in the rural part of my WESTERN NY town is a whole heck of a lot cleaner than the back seat of a smokers car...

no u provided me with no stats in regards to deaths caused by second hand smoke..and yes Im comparing my allergies and my health to strong perfume and drinking. I dont know if I am getting in the car with my kids and a person that has been drinking is going to kill us now do i??? Oh thats right they might have had that red wine that is healthy for ya...maybe they can use that as a court defense...and the perfume is bad for my health since im highly allergic to it and it can throw me into a breathing attack..but thats ok too right??? Yeah and I realize Miami is in Florida and Vegas is sin city but they still allow it..u said u didn't know any cities that allowed it..i just wanted to point that out to u

actually... I will just show you exactly what I said...

Quote:
it is ILLEGAL to drink at a playground in NYS and I would bet most states... and I don't know where you live but there is an open container law that prohibits drinking on the sidewalk in NYS...and MOST states...
I did not say I didn't know any cities that allowed it...You have to be living in a hole for fifty years not to realize that in Vegas it isn't just beers being handed out on the strip... I said MOST places do not allow it...

so to back it up I found THIS for you to pull those dusty reading glasses out and take a gander at...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_container

But this isn't a thread about drinking is it? So here... I will take a few of the FACTS you don't feel like looking up about second hand smoke and put them here for you to actually read...

Quote:
These are just from the American Lung Association site...
Secondhand smoke is especially harmful to young children. Secondhand smoke is responsible for between 150,000 and 300,000 lower respiratory tract infections in infants and children under 18 months of age, resulting in between 7,500 and 15,000 hospitalizations each year, and causes 430 sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) deaths in the United States annually
Research indicates that private research conducted by cigarette company Philip Morris in the 1980s showed that secondhand smoke was highly toxic, yet the company suppressed the finding during the next two decades
Secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,400 lung cancer deaths and 22,700-69,600 heart disease deaths in adult nonsmokers in the United States each year
Secondhand smoke exposure causes disease and premature death in children and adults who do not smoke. Secondhand smoke contains hundreds of chemicals known to be toxic or carcinogenic, including formaldehyde, benzene, vinyl chloride, arsenic ammonia and hydrogen cyanide
You want ACTUAL reports... there are eleven right here...
http://www.epa.gov/smokefree/pubs/st...ncer%20studies

Here is what CNN reports
http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9801/13/sm...ies/index.html

And another one saying the smoke a NONsmoker inhales is far worse than the smoke actually inhaled by the smoker
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/article/6258

Ah... but I actually have a life to get to... I will leave the rest of the Stat searching to you... it is easy if you actually read the stuff...

i used to smoke. Bout a pack a day. but I was never so dumb as to smoke anywhere near my kids. We did not allow smoking in our home, in our vehicle, or anywhere near our kids. Finally, we were able to quit smoking. For that, Im always thankful (i always MISS it!!! but IM thankful we were able to quit)
Our neighbors were smokers too, in fact, we'd sit in our gardenroom and all have a smoke and chat for awhile, no biggie, it was just us grownups who were CHOOSING to smoke. But then, they'd get intheir car to go somewhere, w/the kids all packed in the back, both parents smoking away in the front, and the kids coughing in the back. And then they would talk of how terrible their kids ashma, colds, broncitus, pnemonia, etc. was. I had a friend, they lost their baby to SIDS a few years back...a Dr told them there was a good chance it was due to the fact they still smoked in the bedroom w/the baby right there.
Even when I was a smoker, I could never understand why any parent would make a CHOICE to smoke by their kids, even just knowing theres a POSSIBILITY its harming your kids, why would you chose to do that? How can you put your habit in front of your kids?
IMO, smoking around kids, or by pregnant women should be illegal. drastic yes, maybe a required educational program if theyre caught rather than something like a jail sentence, but something....
Im sure I'll get flogged for my opinion. but hey, its my honest opinion.
Tiffany
