Rules are rules. I think "touchy" subjects like this get offtrack. I'm guilty. I just want to add why I think people find breastfeeding so offensive. Our country is huge on sex sex and more sex. Women are seen more today as sexUAL objects rather than mothers! The breasts are made for baby, not for DADDY and his buddies, lol!
We BREASTFEEDERS are just trying to play the role we were ment to! I don't mean that women need only have children, stay home and be mommies, but that our bodies are beautiful because it births and nurtures life!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT because we have cleavage and look good in a bikini!
As for the facebook, they need to rethink their policy. I agree that if a persons profile is private they should LEAVE breastfeeding pictures alone!!!! They should be exempt from the nudity rule. However, if the profile is NOT set to private, she needs to follow the rules of facebook!

I both bottle/breastfed my kids....so I speak from both sides.... I see why facebook banned it. People can distort anything and you do need to walk a fine line in terms of what is classified as nudity. How far is too far. When I nursed I did it in private and if someone was with me I covered myself up... to make both of us feel more comfortable. There are many people who don't feel comfortable with people nursing right there in front of them.... I was always aware of this.... There are also a lot of people who are in your face about it, my aunt was one of them, and would just pop the boob out in public and nurse away not caring what joe or jane was walking by. Once, we were in a courthouse waiting for a wedding and there were convicts actually GAWKING!(not the finest family moment) So, this is where the borderline comes into play.... I think they are trying to protect some people who might not know anybetter and put their picture out there for all to see.... where as others might keep it private... BUT.... there are rules..... if people don't like them.... Don't join facebook.

That could be - the part about breastfeeding. I can only speak for myself, and I personally have no hang-ups about it at all. My wife nursed all 3 of our kids until they weaned themselves when they were about a year old. I cannot even begin to elaborate on all the good things about that.
That said, I do think you've made a good point about the "Boobies on Facebook" issue. Perhaps if her profile is set to Private so that only her friends can see her pictures, boob shots would be okay - especially breastfeeding pictures, that really are not sexual in nature anyway.

My wife, when nursing our kids in public, just draped their little blankey over her shoulder. It worked great. It was obvious what she was doing, but was not in any way uncomfortable or awkward for anybody.

I don't understand why you are so aggitated over my post. I was stating that I personally covered up. I also stated that it was facebooks RIGHT to ban the photos.... you have every right not to join.... You can do what YOU want.... but, I understand why facebook decided to ban the photos. It has nothing to do with YOU not wanting to cover up....but protecting the population as a whole. Nobody is attacking YOU. Nothing I said was an attack on anyone.... just a statement in general.

Oh no no no. I am not aggitated. You said you covered up so no one was uncomfortable. I was just saying that it makes me uncomfortable to cover up. It makes me feel like I'm doing something dirty to cover up. It makes MY daughter uncomfortable and unable to feed as well when SHE is covered up.
So who's rights are more important? I'm uncomfortable if I cover up, SOME are uncomfortable if I don't! Who gets the "right to" and who "doesn't?"
They banned the photos to PROTECT the population as a whole????
I think we need to find out if her profile was private. That could end this all. If it WAS, facebook is out of line. If NOT, she needs to comply with THEIR rules since it is public.
