Oh geez. I think Vicks is fine. Of course you don't want to overdo it, and there are probably a few kids who are sensitive, but we've used it for years. We get the goo you put in the humidifier.

My gram tells me when she was a girl, her dad put turpentine and goose grease on her chest when she had a cold. She's allergic to turpentine and would break out in a rash every time. Gram is allergic to tons of stuff, and if she recommends Vicks for little kids, I trust her over some doctor any day.

I'm just guna dunk my kid in a vat of vicks, cow dung, spit, crude oil and other various substances that are considered "bad" so he can just become immune to all the illnesses known to man............. :P

Kidding....... but seriously. Everyone is just too damn paranoid about EVERYTHING for their kids nowadays. My best friend was a NEAT freak when her kid was like 6 months, just three months later (now) if his pacifier falls on the ground she just wipes it on her pants and sticks it back in his mouth. They all have to be exposed to germs SOME time! they need to build immunities to things. And the only was is to be exposed in most cases! sheesh.

I am a Vick's lover as well...Although this study was done because of some brilliant parent slathering a tub of vicks under and in the nose of an 18 month old...who had to be hospitalized because of it. So I think the point of the whole thing is slathering a tub of Vick's in or under the nose of a small child, could harm them.

Have a stuffy nose? Just take a Q tip and put some Vicks in your nostrils. Nearly instant relief.

And here is a one for ya - if you have a toenail fungus - apply Vicks on your toenail every nite, put on socks, and in several weeks, you will see improvement - and for many people - the fungus goes away after six or so weeks. I know it sounds crazy. Read this in a news article five or so years ago. Had a fungus problem w/ the nail on one foot - and the doc wanted to give me drugs to cure it that were so powerful - I would have to have my liver checked/tested to make sure the drugs were not causing damage! FORGET THAT!

That was four years ago - fungus never returned.

I LOVE VICKS!!!!
It works great on any nail fungus. I had a nail fungus on one of my thumbs, I think I got it while gardening. My grandma read an article in Dr. Gott about using vicks for nail funguses. Gave it a try and in just a short time it was gone. I just put on some vicks and a band-aid. It's been at least three years and still no fungus for me either.

Dr. Gott had something about using vicks on psoriasis(sp?) or exzema (sp?) as well. I can't remember which one for sure or what the treatment was exactly as it wasn't something I or my family have a problem with. My grandma again told me about it. I guess Dr. Gott has a lot of different uses or his readers have found quite a few different uses for vicks.

I use vicks on my chapped lips. Works great and better than chap-stick.

I use vicks on my kids when they have a cold or are coughing at night. Most the the time I use the greasless vicks, but if I'm out of it I use the normal vicks. I just rub a bit on their chests and backs and they sleep pretty comfortably.

For my kids when they were really little I mixed vicks with vasoline about a 50/50 mixture. This keeps from irratating sensitive skin.

"Vicks may make you feel better, but it can't help you breathe better".

And? Vicks doesn't get rid of the underlying illness; it makes you feel better, same as a cough drop or a pain reliever. Some people are stupid. I sometimes think that MD's would like to think that anyone who hasn't attended med. school is useless.

I'll bet that his Mom rubbed Vicks on him when he was little and I'll place a second bet on the fact that she probably wasn't a Dr.

I remember having a little Vicks portable sniffing thing when I was younger. It was about the size of a chapstick and when you unscrewed the cap and put it up to your nasal passage you could inhale a big sniff of Vicks smell. Does anyone else remember this little thing. I would imagine they don't make it anymore...

I remember what you are talking about. I used one, only one or two times. I don't think it lasted all that long on the market. It's been a long time since I've seen it too.

pinetreelover- they still make them!!! I have one in my purse. It is handy if I wind up someplace too stuffy. And I love to use it when I get on a plane. Helps me feel like I can breathe in good.
Vicks Vapor Inhaler -seems like I got it near the cold meds. A quick snort or 2 on each side, adn good to go....

Another Vicks fan here. I used it as a child, and no problems. Funny, when I was a kid everyone gave peanut butter to kids, and no allergies among any of them. Nowdays they say not to give it until at least 2 or 3, and more people have allergies to peanuts. Now it's Vicks? Where will it end?
