I can't believe my baby will be an official teen in 3 days. She's my late blessing and a total medical miracle, which would make for another post. Anyways, for her 13th b-day we are giving her a present of an encounter to swim w/ the dolphins.

Of course, she's getting some other things, but I also want to get her a special piece of jewelry. I was thinking of going w/ either a ring or necklace, not sure whether to have it her birthstone or a diamond. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

TIA!

The dolphin swim sounds like a wonderful gift. I'd probably save the nice jewelry for 16.

I would do birthstones over diamonds for a 13 yr old for sure. I think I got pearl earrings for my 16th birthday. I might have gotten a silver Tiffany heart necklace for my 13th, and that is because "everyone" was getting them. I would save diamonds for later if it were me.

When my DD turned 13 we gave her a braclet - silver with little heart charms. We told her it signified that while she was entering teenaged years when doubt and confusion were bound to rear their heads, she should remember that her family was always with her and supporting her. She is 18 and away at college and still wears that bracelet. It was the only piece of jewelry (non costume) she took with her. We gave her a birthstone at 16 which sits in her jewelry box at home.....

I have seen some beautiful mother-daughter necklaces that have inspiring messages engraved in them that might be a nice idea. I would definitely opt for a birthstone over diamonds for a teenager.

I agree.

Why not ask her for a list. No one knows what she would like more than she.

Or ask her best friends. They know her, too, and it would be a surprise.
