She wasn't even the babies mother. She was a foster and this happened the FIRST DAY she had the poor baby. She did it to try and "quiet" him... WTH!?!!?!?!?! He came to her as a FOSTER....... hello woman, most of these babies have issues that make them a bit fussier than a "normal" baby. She should NOT be a foster and has no business being a nurse for ANYONE much less babies.

Oh my... this girl was a NURSE? Now this is scary. What do they teach in nursing school these days, anyway?

This is unreal! A nurse...a neonatal one at that!?! I think an investigation into her background and education is in order. However, I think any normal, rational person would know that taping anything to a baby is just plain wrong. You don't need to go to nursing school for that. How horrible for that poor little baby! I hope she gets what she deserves.

Unbelievable.

I find it hard to believe she is an RN - I hope they got the nurse thing wrong.

Poor baby.

Hey, here is more coverage of the story.

Foster mom-nurse charged in baby’s death - Local / Metro - The State (http://www.thestate.com/154/story/777440.html - broken link)

More internet searching revealed she was supposed to receive her BSN from Univ of South Carolina upstate this month. Benadryl, a bunch of fluffy blankets, and taping paci to a mouth - she really really really should have known better.

So, she's a nurse, a foster mom, and a college student. I can see why someone would want to foster but I think it was a poor decision - she was probably overwhelmed and desperate to get the baby to sleep.

It is really sad that a child has to die. Something like this happened in my state several years ago. The foster mother duct taped the girl's mother shut and taped her to the chair (frontline: failure to protect: the taking of logan marr | PBS).

It is sad any time a child dies, but common sense would say that if you don't want to risk losing your child at the hands of their foster parent, do what you can to keep them out of foster care! Common sense, people!

Sadly who would have thought the baby would have been worse off in foster care. He had THC in his blood so he was removed from his home. His sister, also quite young, was found to have cocaine in her blood and also removed.

Sad, sad, sad.

What a sad story. They took the child away from the mother because he tested positive for marijuana (was found in a hotel room with his mom amidst a cloud of marijuana smoke) as well as the daughter for testing positive for cocaine(!) - put the baby in foster care to this s*it-for-brains who taped his mouth shut and killed him. Now the crackie mom can sue the state, win millions, and be able to afford all the crack she can smoke from here to eternity.

System is broke - we need to do a full overhaul, folks.
