Many yrs back met a Hispanic woman named "ANDY" on her uniform shirt (same name as my dad), She was wearing a company shirt so asked if it was borrowed. She said NO as it was hers.

Seems her dad wanted a boy named ANDY and being the firstborn she got it. Generally you would think it should be "ANDI"......anyway she was satisfied with the Male spelling altho unusual.

Andy can be a fun nickname for Andrea.

The 'dash' names however are truly bizarre. How would you know to pronounce La-A as Ladasha and not Lahyphena? But really, who would care.

Tell that to Percy Harvin, of the Minnesota Vikings.

Anyone remember actress Michael Learned, who played Olivia Walton? I think I read somewhere that her father wanted a boy and had the name picked out before she was born.

A lot of those so called girl names actually started off as boy names. Ashley for example.
