yeah, not too keen on the "knocked up by a Mexican" phrasing, but whatever. There are much better names than Latina... it's just a strange name...

I don't believe Latina is a name and if it is, it's definately not a name I would choose.

If she wants to give her child a Latino sounding name there are several places on the web that she can look at for name ideas, or there are baby books she could look through.

Here are a few websites that give Latino/Latin names:

Latina is not a name.
Here is a thread that talks about how names can affect people.
Baby names : Short list help me decide. I want a sexy yet respectable name for a child

To those that have told you it is not of your business, I disagree. She is your sister and you care for the well being and future of her baby so keep on nudging her in the right direction.

Germanic, Saxon...oh wait, I think someone's done that...

It would be ridiculously confusing. That child would be constantly explaining herself...Yes, I am Latina AND I'm Latina! (Shaking head.)

Does this woman realize she's mulling over an ethnic description?

Not OP's business except that her sister has asked her about it...or something...so here...have her look here for something with flavor (and the links above):

To a point, Suzie. Even family has a limit they aren't allowed to cross, they just get a bit more leeway depending on the relationship, but there's still a line that says "No Trespassing: Personal Space"

is it LaTina, like LaToya or LaKeisha?

why not. its your sisters baby. let her do what she wants.

but for some reason i dont beleive you. judging from your posts in the immig and politics & controversies forums, you like to talk mess about "mexicans".

Hell to the NAW! Get your sister to read the responses here as I'm sure they will be
a) Harsh
2) Pretty close to the reactions she'll get in "real life".

Instead, she could use a "Latina" name eg Pilar, Marian, Lopez even. A name like that could announce to the world that the child is Latina...which is what she wants.

"LaToya", "LaKeisha" and any other "Lasomething" names are not Latina but black names. Think Latoya Jackson, singer Latavia, Queen Latifah etc.
