Very timely for many of us and while this article is about millennials, it certainly applies to every stage of life. It is natural to want to know what our "kids" are doing.
None of mine moved back home after college, so their daily activities were their own business. They shared the major things, goals, and challenges. They had questions about car insurance, choosing a Dr., and other adult subjects, which we enjoyed sharing. The big change for me came when they married. They bought homes, etc. and navigated it all themselves without the need of guidance. Thankfully I knew to keep my nose out unless invited in. It was a little harder for my husband, but he caught on. I feel like we did a good job of raising kids who are independent adults now but still like to get together regularly for BBQs and outings.
I'd also have to wonder what the daughter has to say! I'm also estranged from my parents, but not because of my generation of all things. I believe my own mother is also quite confused about why we're not speaking, even though it was her that initiated the break and has kept it going all these years.
