Good question. I'm honestly not sure, as it never happened. We used to tell them playing sports and being added to our car insurance was dependent on a good report card, so perhaps it acted as an impetus to do well. Would we have made them give up baseball/football/hockey/track etc if they didn't do well? I doubt it, but they always went to schools where failing a class made you ineligible to play anyway.

The only son we dealt with who had less than exceptional grades was our middle boy, who has a learning disability. We cheered his Bs as loud as the As of his brothers, we just didn't pay for them.

Paying for their car insurance is pretty pricey. See, it's all a matter of perspective. My husband's parents gave him $50 for straight A's on his report card (this was the 80s/90s), but he had to pay his own car insurance by getting a job when the time came.
