Naming your children an uncommon name is a bit difference than tattooing yourself with ideographs you can't read.

One thing my wife and I learned real quick.... don't ask for others opinions on choosing a name.

Truth!

I actually think the OP name, Xia, is pretty. Everyone seemed ok pronouncing Xena (my nieces name) so I'm pretty sure this name wouldn't cause confusion for most people. X's aren't scary anymore

It's too bad the OP doesn't seem to be around anymore...mysteries will remain.

Give some easy name to your child, I was hurting a lot due to my name. They were calling me in many different ways. But with XIA I think that will be fine.

My dad's wife's name is Liu Xia and the second part is pronounced Sha. She goes by the nick name Gia, though, since nobody can pronounce her name correctly. My two younger brothers have Chinese middle names but Anglicized first names so they don't have to explain the spelling and pronunciation to everyone they meet. Xia is short and not too complicated though but I bet she will get called a lot of different things through her life. There are many worse things you can live with and if you really like the name, go for it. I think it's pretty.

I'm white, wife is Asian (not Chinese).

We both like the name quite a bit. Xia means 'glow of sunrise' in Mandarin Chinese.

However, I know the U.S. is becoming more and more multicultural with many different names. But wondering if 'Xia' is a bit too difficult for English speakers with how to pronounce it, etc.

Other than that, we both like the name quite a bit.

Still, I'm a bit curious to hear other's opinions on it.
Go for it. When she is older, it will be a great ice breaker too....ppl will ask how to pronounce it.

I like xia. Congrats
There simply isn't a name on the planet that can't be picked about by another kid....and that includes every plain name in use.
