When I was a teenager I loved riding my bike. My friends and I drove our bikes every where all over the town we lived in. It was great. By age 17 we got a car and never rode a bike ever again. But from age 5-17 our bikes were our main form of transporation.

Do your teenagers or friends ride a bike?

Sure do.

And they ride them even more now that they are in their 20s and on their own.
Riding bikes means that they don't spend as much on gas!

Sure. My 13 and 15 year old ride their bikes to their friends houses. Sometimes they take them to the community pool. This summer I have let the little guy (10) ride with them when their friends have similarly aged siblings, but not to the pool.

Yes, my son (14) really enjoys riding his bike. I haven't had to do a "drop off/pick up" from his friends homes for quite a while. All of his friends ride bikes.

I only wish it was safe to ride a bike where I grew up. I had neighbors in a subdivision down the street but driver don't like to share the road with cyclists. I grew up riding my bike around my subdivision, but it was for fun rather than for transportation. I'd occasionally ride my bike to the pool but because my neighborhood was so hilly, it almost made more sense to just walk.

Our oldest son (he's 14) rides his bike everywhere - friends houses, the pool, school, even to the store if he wants to use his own money to buy something that I don't spend our money on (junk food... soda's...)

Our youngest son is 9 and doesn't ride as much as his big brother. We ride together as a family quite a bit, but I don't feel comfortable letting him ride to school or a friends house alone yet. We also have some pretty steep hills where we are and his bike doesn't have gears... we're waiting until he grows a little bit more before we buy him a new bike that will have gears that makes going up the steep hills a bit easier.

My son is 19. He takes his car to work, comes home & uses his bike to ride around town.

He's into saving money & the environment.

I was the same way as a child/teen. My kids don't ride bikes. The only time my youngest rides a bike is when we go camping, then she is off and riding all day long.

I think what stopped the kids riding bikes is the law of the helmet. They think helmets are dorky and uncool, and do not want to be seen with them. I say "Having your head smash and splat into the ground is uncool" The older they get the more cool they want to look. When they were younger they thought the helmet with The little mermaid on it was cool LOL

I see lots of adult bike riders in big groups in full uniform and helmet but few teenagers on bikes.
