Can't the father be charged with "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" or something like that?

The girl would still be on the hook for her own actions, but that sorry excuse for a father should also be held accountable. Maybe his actions could be used as a mitigating circumstance in the girl's case?

Like the others have said, the mom should talk to an attorney.

You need to come back and explain better.
I don't understand why your sister is being charged.

As far as the kid/teen suffering consequences, it depends. If the girl didn't have a cell to call her mom to tell her what was going on, no.

I also feel if the "father" is the type that would beat the cr@p out of the kid or threaten, no.

I agree. OP hasn't provided enough information to determine whether the niece was a victim, or was complicit with her father.

Thanks for all your replies. I have talked to my sister and her daughter was so scared she told the bank why she did what she did. The bank gave her X amount of time to pay it back. Meanwhile the father is still not getting punished. I thought writing the cheques was wrong, so why does he get off with a $60 bounce fee and she pays it both. She is now looking for a job and hoping to pay it back when it should be the father.

My niece was only going by what her father said. He said all was ok and her being a minor she would not get into trouble. He was broke needed money and wanted her to write a cheque. He cashed it go the money and now SHE is responsible for it. Not him

i also would suggest that the mother seek legal counsel and make sure she tells the lawyer every little detail and hold the sob accountable . I hope he does some prison time for it . any person who calls themselves a parent and does this is no parent . they are a sperm donor and that is it .!!!!
