My DD is very excited for Kindergarten to start on Sept 8th. She is really eager for a change. The kids in her daycare class are headed to many different schools, all with different start dates. Her start date is one of the latest (possibly the last one).

Any tips for helping her get through the next 2 weeks?

I have a 9 yr old and 3 yr old twins.........let's see you could take her to her new school and play on the playground---do you know any children who will be going to her school? You could arrange a picnic or lunch out at a restaurant or park so the children can meet or just eat and play if they already know each other. Are any of your swimming pools still open? Try the YMCA if not. THen there's always CHuckee Cheese (where we are headed tomorrow) or one of those Jumping Places, Childrens Museum, Make your own sundae ice cream/yogurt places, shopping for school supplies/shoes/clothes etc (my dd hated shopping though) Good Luck! I know it will be a long two weeks but at the end you will think it went by so fast!

Arrange a play date with some one from her new class, if possible. Walk or drive her to the school so she's familiar with it. Two weeks will go by fast. Good luck! My son started kindergarten this year too!

Google "coloring pages" and give her schoolwork everyday... at this age, it's still fun. Not only can you download regular, "just for fun" pages, but there are learning pages/crafts too. Practice your morning routine everyday, but instead of going to the bus stop (or driving her to school) go to the playground on the school grounds for 30 minutes instead. Pack a snack in her new lunchbox and have her carry it in her new backpack.

What about making something for her new teacher, or starting a scrapbook? Things like paper machier can take several days to do... and scrapbooking can, too. If she likes doing arts and crafts, you could help her make ribbon barrettes to wear in her hair that match her new school outfits, or tie dye a t-shirt, or make beaded bracelets...etc.

Go to the school - frequently! You are bound to run into teachers and perhaps other kids playing at the schools playground. When my kids transfered to a new school for 3rd grade, we visited during the summer right before school started. They not only met a whole lot of teachers, but also their teachers who let them in the classroom and showed them their seats. My kids were thrilled

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am going to try to do some of them - as possible with work.

Luckily the school is attached to our church and she went to a week-long, half-day, getting-ready-for-kindergarten camp earlier this month. So she is familiar with the classroom, the playground, some classmates and one of her teachers. It is nice to hear that other parents have found familiarity with these things to be important.

I like the idea of a multi-day craft project to be completed before the start of kindergarten. I am going to try and take her to the pool one evening this week and one evening next week. She loves to swim and the pools close on Labor Day. When we get her bus information (any day now), we are going to try to shift our family's morning routine so that we are leaving for daycare at the same time she would catch the bus. This will also help us figure out how to adjust bedtime before the first week of school.
