Breastfeeding in public
I was just reading another post about breast feeding on a long flight overseas. (I thought the poster was very nice and thoughful BTW, I appreciated her concern for other's)
I would really like to hear other people's opinions in regards to the whole breastfeeding in public issue.
For me, I'm not bothered by discreet feeding - I'd rather not know about it at all, breastfeeding in public should be avoided and if it can't be it should be done as privately as possible.
But I've been in shopping centres and have seen women's exposed breasts while they calmly, in full view of anyone who cares to look, get their babies ready to breastfeed.
I know it is not PC to say or do anything but I find it really confronting and rude.
For me it's like public urination - it's normal to go to the toilet, pick your nose and scratch your bottom but why do you need to show everyone and dare them to criticise?

Like public urination? You need a reality check.
My breasts are on my body to feed babies and nothing else. If you are disgusted by the sight, then turn your head. Fact of the matter is,,,their function? To feed babies.
You act like nursing mothers take off their shirts, unhook bra's and are sitting there bare chested trying to latch a baby... Reality is you see more boob on the cover of a Victoria's Secret ad you get in the mail... Are you that uncomfortable with your own body that you find breasts 'confronting and rude'?

i think it is not unreasonable to expect a little consideration for your surroundings.
dont guilt people because you dont have any problem at all with it.

If you don't like it look away. I agree there are times/places I am shocked someone is as comfortable to breastfeed in certain places and not being discreet. But I see that is my problem. I would perfer they cover up, be a bit more discreet, but it's an infant feeding....

Oh man, hasn't this dead horse been beaten enough?
For the record, I agree with the OP.

I'm sure everyone will add your input to their "record"
I have a few extra blankets for you and anyone else who would like one.
The law is on the breastfeeding mother's side. The general public is on the breastfeeding mother's side. Most women are on on the breastfeeding mother's side. ALL babies are on the breastfeeding mother's side. Nature is definitely on the breastfeeding mother's side.
Must be lonely on the OTHER side

Nope, because the "OTHER" side doesn't really care as much as you seem to think... The "OTHER" side aren't a bunch of attention seeking whiners.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying most breastfeeding mothers are attention seeking whiners.. just the ones that think its their mission in life to make other people uncomfortable doing so.

Breastfeeding moms are generally the sweetest group of women you could EVER meet.
It is far from their mission to make others uncomfortable. Frankly, we have better things to worry about like keeping our little babies healthy, happy and well fed
And if the "other side" didn't care they wouldn't keep starting threads and saying such crude rude and mean things.
We aren't going away. We have a job to do and we are going to do it whether or not a few as YOU put it "whiners" try to embarrass US. . . .
And by the way, anybody offended by a breastfeeding is staring too hard
