They need to find out which neighbor turned them in. That is INSANE!!!! In this case I'd be in trouble myself as would most of my friends. We ALWAYS swapped babysitting for each other. Heck, that is something they always told new moms to do in order to go out to eat or a movie with their husbands without having to worry about who had the child. They knew a trusted ADULT friend was caring for their kid and could actually enjoy themself. Or the kids were good friends and the kids would play as it was almost like a "play date" for them more than being "babysat". Somebody lost a lot of common sense when this law went into place.
So I take it that the other parents are to just LEAVE their kids UNATTENDED on the street for an hour or so to wait for the school bus. What a moronic law this is and a pathetic lousy neighbor busybody that needs to find something else to do.

When I was a kid, leaving your kids at the school bus stop wasn't an issue. Leaving your kids home alone wasn't an issue either. Today, it is.

Here is a good kicker. If one gets called for jury duty the minor child that would be left "unattended" would have to be 10 or younger. However, if you leave your 11 year old at home alone and go do your public service and something happens at home they CAN take your kids away. There have been enough instances of parents leaving their 11 year olds home alone and something happens and they take the kids away and the parents get in trouble for leaving them alone. But somehow it is OKAY to do so if your going to jury duty. Work doesn't count.

If she did not receive compensation for watching these kids, then she is not running an unlicensed daycare. Time to call an attorney.

That a disgusting person went out to "tell" authorities about such "wrongdoing" means that ...well...you can find disgusting people in this world; and that's OK.
That a legal avenue exists that can actually legitimize this kind of nasty behavior and that an act of natural, organic community could be officially sanctioned as an impropriety - is a much more serious situation.
It speaks volumes, not of how disgusting one particular individual can be, but of how dehumanized we have become as a society.
Being an immigrant from an obviously much more traditional country than the US (all other countries are), I have received a lot of flack throughout the years for expressing dismay at times with certain aspects of the American culture (now spreading in other parts of the world as well, of course).
The flack systematically concludes with the intellectually pathetic "if-you-don't-like-it-leave" line.
THIS incident is a symptom of an ugly disease in a society that has given me better professional/economic opportunities than I could have ever found in my own country - while asking for my soul in return. The very fact that the word "community" is still used in the US is both a shame and a sham, in and of itself.

It's not at all moronic. It's just yet another stride in service at the altar of business with the welcome side effect of killing all humanity in humans. We're doin' good.
