NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Some New York parents are sharply criticizing city stores for selling revealing and sexually suggestive Halloween costumes for young girls.

The parents said items for sale at Party City outlets and other stores include a "High Seas Hottie" pirate costume small enough to fit 8-year-olds, a revealing sailor outfit for girls as young as 4, a "Convict Cutie" woman-in-chains costume in sizes for young girls and a "Devil Grrrl" costume for 10- to 14-year-olds featuring red fishnet stockings, the New York Post reported Monday.

Guess what?? They don't have to buy these costumes for their kids!! They can purchase a costume they find appropriate and that's the end of it.

Guess what else?? If some parents wouldn't allow their 8, 10,12, 14 year old daughters dress like junior skanks, then the costume companies wouldn't be making costumes like this!! The companies are only making what they believe will sell.

Absolutely. Just because someone makes something, you don't have to buy it. There is a word mom and dad...No, use it...

I agree with the parents. My 18 y.o. daughter has NEVER dressed inappropriately, and we cannot find a modest costume for her. It is very irritating. And even the younger girl versions are not appropriate. We will end up making her costume from clothes at the Goodwill. My advice is just to make your own costume.

Please tell me that 18-year-olds are not still trick-or-treating in Texas.

I was in both Party City and Halloween City recently and they have PLENTY of appropriate/modest costumes for both children and adults.

I don't know what stores you were looking in, but you clearly weren't looking hard enough --- or maybe just saw a couple of "hottie" costumes and ran out of the store.

It's shocking what's available as a costume for kids. Went with my daughter to pick out a costume last year and was looking around at some of the costumes for 'teens'. It looked like what you may expect from the wardrobe for a porn set....and the adult costumes....definitely did. LOL

I agree that parents don't have to buy the costumes and it's a free country and all of that, but at the same time stores don't have to stock them. If a store in my neighborhood was selling inappropriate outfits geared towards young girls I wouldn't buy them, but I'd also tell the store that I wasn't going to shop at their store anymore, as I prefer my money to go towards businesses that share my values, and those don't include dressing up 8 year olds to look like hookers.
