Most women on here have argued they basically HAVE to work financially. I would just like to add that there should not be any shame in a woman admitting she WANTS to work, that she does not need the money, but wants to work.

Very few things in life are black and white.

being that you are a teacher I wonder if they ever did a survey on the first day of Kindergarten
how many kids walked right in
and how many clung to mommy's leg

I wonder if there is a correlation to the fact that they already had the experience of being separated at a younger age when they were more forgving to the fact or maybe they just thought it was the way it was.

I was a stay at home mom for my son who is now 7

I get at least 3 calls a week from the school nurse telling me my son is in the office sick
I talk to him on the phone
he misses me and wants to come home

I wonder if I had separated myself from him when he was younger if this would be a non issue

I am not picking on you I just thought you may know as you are a teacher

You're exactly right - funny how it's perfectly ok for a man to say "oh NO! I could NEVER stay home full time with my kids" - or that they "love their job" without being labelled selfish or materialistic.

Interesting also how a lot of rabid SAH'ers also call their husbands "babysitters" - e.g. "my husband is babysitting tonight while I go play bunco" - but I digress.....

Happy children are the product of happy parents. We did a mixture of everything, daycare, friend, stayed at home for the winter, brought the kids to work with me. Been there, done that.

Now they are 7 & 8 and are in school fulltime and after school they come to work with me. Is it the best situation ; nope, as I know they would prefer being at home playing. But its the best we can do as we have no family here and I dont want to put them in aftercare everday.

We just have to do the best that we can.
