If you were held back it was for a reason. And that means you are in the grade you are 'supposed' to be in.

We just moved here to NC from Washington and we are attending UC schools. It turns out my DH is doing awesome, I was just worried because the quality of the school she was in previously. Seems the only problems we are having is the typical 5th grade girl drama! lol
Thank you all for your input!

I'd get her tested for how she ranks among kids in the US. I used to live in Arkansas, and while I was high on the Arkansas scale, I was lower on the US scale, because I didn't attend a good public school

Taking a test will only help if you can do the material you need to do for that grade. You can, if your parents are willing, take the placement tests for the k-12 virtual school and see where you stand. You can print out placement tests for the grade you are in and keep going until you hit the grade you would not pass into. The school district would not have to accept these tests though. It would depend on how they see things.

hi ive been homeschooled and i want to go to public school my junior and senior years of high school. ive fallen behind because of some major family issues that unfortunately pushed my education to the back burner but i do not want to have to redo sophomore year. im a good student, i always got really high scores on my sats and i know i will catch up quickly, my question is if i enroll or whatever will i have to take a placement test? if so can someone help me, maybe direct me to a sight that tells me what i need to know to not get put a grade behind?? im just behind on the curriculum and i dont have time to catch up in the books as school starts in like 2 weeks. im just afraid to try and get into school and have to take a test that tells me im not smart enough to be a junior. i am willing to work really hard i just dont know what im supposed to do. any help would be GREATLY appreciated! im stressing! i live in california by the way

Depends on your school district. Only they can tell you what's necessary. I say take the test - if you don't pass, it does NOT mean you're not smart enough to be a junior. Tests like that don't measure IQ. It just means you don't have the knowledge, which you stated yourself (you said you were behind on the curriculum). The problem is that lots of subjects at school build on previous knowledge learned the years before. So you can't just start as a Junior necessarily if you don't have the basics. I don't know for sure, but it might be possible to start as a junior in some classes (e.g. history) which don't require previous knowledge (depending on the curriculum), but I would think (just my opinion) that classes like math and science would require you to have the background before building on that to do more complex stuff. Best best is to call your school district and I am sure they will definitely have you take a test.

I know I'm going to get roasted over the coals for this one... but I have to say it . To all the kids on here who are frustrated because their parents made the choice to hold them back in early elementary school... there was a reason for it. It is doubtful that you can go back 8 years later and "fix" the "mistake" of you being a grade behind.
And... where is the punctuation, the capital letters at the beginning of sentences, the full and complete sentences?? You are asking to be moved ahead a grade in school... and, yet, you come across as severely under-educated based on your writing.

You should post this in the education forum. I'm a teacher but I live in Canada so I can't help you.

Look at your child's most recent standardized test - the end of grade test will give you the grade level
