Post News, In exchange for jail time, US woman, daughter hold signs admitting they stole from 9-year-old.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS BEDFORD, Pa. - In exchange for jail time, a woman and her adult daughter have agreed to stand outside a courthouse holding signs saying they stole a gift card from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday.
Fifty-six-year-old Evelyn Border and 35-year-old Tina Griekspoor stood outside the court for 4 1/2 hours Tuesday. They held signs that read: "I stole from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday! Don't steal or this could happen to you!"

I saw this online and showed it to my seven year old daughters. They both agreed embarrassment is pretty bad punishment and they felt sorry for the 9 year old girl. The story gave us an opportunity to talk about mean spirited people, taking things which don't belong to you and how we all have consequences for our actions. good lessons learned.

Persoanally I would give them a public flogging.

Lets rememeber that they STOLE MONEY. Correct me if I am wrong but a gift card is a card purchased from the shop that has a value that can be redeemed by the person holding the card.

However I do agree that almost anything is preferable to jail.
