The best party
Go to the park.
Run around. Play some games.
Depending on age, sex, interest,
Little kids you put down some travelling rugs and play pass the parcel and duck duck goose.
Older kids play tag and brandy (oooo oooo rough not politically correct game ooo)
parents stand around and chat.
Byo picnic, food, cake.
No hassles. Bit of effort and if you are not feeling confident, ask some other parents to help.
Get dad to run a BBQ.
Then you go home, put the kids to bed early and collapse in front of the TV.

Thank you for some great suggestions and advice! My daughter is 6 and we would be inviting some boys that are various ages, 3, 5, 6, as well as some girls. We did the park party for two years in a row so last year was Chuckie Cheese. She had a great time there and it wasn't too pricey. I do wonder about the lack of entertainment and activities at a Build a Bear party especially for the boys. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Couldn't agree more. Wish I could give you more than one rep.

My suggestion is not to invite the boys to a build a bear party (as a mother of 3 boys). If your daughter really wants build a bear make it a girls only party (as much as possible).

Parties in the park are always fun (my guys favorite). If you want organized activities there are companies that will organize the games for the kids and around here they do not charge that much.

You can also check with some bounce house or big rental companies as they have build a bear parties as well. Maybe an inflatable center, they have them as well and it will be more intimate than at the actual Build a Bear store.

I ordered the bear skins, outfits, and stuffing online and did it at home. Did it years ago, so forgot the name of the company, but I'm sure there are many out there. I ordered mine wholesale, since I had enough kids to meet the minimum. Just make sure to prestuff the arms and legs, or it will take forever, and have lots of parents helping if they are young.

One year we set up a carnival for my daughters 6th birthday, I believe it was. It wasn't actually too much work and not a ton of money either, believe it or not. I bought a bunch of 25 cent trinkets and handed them out to the winners of each game. Games were easy stuff such as clothes pin drop, ring toss, who could pop the ballon first, etc. After about two hours of the carnival we did the typical birthday cake and opening presents.

I'm with whoever said don't invite boys to the BaB party. I helped my sister with her son's BaB party and none of the little boys looked like they were having fun (the little girls didn't really either). There was probably 20 kids there so most of the time spent was in line waiting to build the bear. All you got with the party package was a plain starter bear which IMO is no different than any other bear. You have to pay extra for the clothes. Some parents did and others didn't so a lot of kids ended up leaving unhappy since all they god was a regular bear.

Most kids I know would be happier just with simple games and the traditional cake and present opening.
