Ew. My DD never even acted like that when she was a pre-teen/teen (nor was I one of the screaming girls about David Cassidy or Donny Osmond when I was young). Haven't read the Twilight books (but I don't read romances anyway - at least not since about 8th grade). No interest whatsoever. I know who I am and am comfortable with my age so I cannot imagine acting like that. I would think it would have really embarrassed my kids had I behaved that immaturely.
My guess is these are the same "women" who dress themselves too young and dress their children too "old" (read "like tarts"). Bizarre.
NCyank--have you read the books? This is why grown women are gaga over the stars, the movies, the books etc. I feel it is obvious if you have read the books.
They make you think back to when love was so overpowering and strong that you couldn't stand to be away from that person--the adventerous young love--us old married people don't have that now (LOL)..
agreed. I'm not into Robert Pattinson. But I loved the CHARACTER Edward in the books. He's gorgeous, strong, smart, educated, protective, and talented. He is something that no real man could ever be. He's a safe crush. He's not even a real person. Plus his relationship with Bella is so forbidden, it makes you want it even more. And he's not actually 17. He's way more mature than that, and even RP is 24 years old.
ETA I do not act crazy or own any Twilight items of any kind. Not even the books. I borrowed them. I didn't even see the movies in the theater. I'm just saying I get the appeal of Edward.
All I can say is you can have Robert Pattinson and Zac Efron, but give me Puck (Mark Salling) from Glee and I'll go home happy. He's 27 though, so I'm not sure it's quite as egregious.

I hear you! I've never been one to go for the "soft" boys, or emo brooders. Sure, they are safe, which is why preteen girls go for them too, but I've always had celebrity crushes on the more traditional manly males, even when I was a teenager.
Justine bieber & zac efron are quite feminine. Maybe the cougars like that.
