And your response is some sort of nationalistic imperative for Americans to have more children because Europe is supposedly on some kind of "demographic deathbed." Are you going to tell us about Manifest Destiny next?

Please, in the name of civilized society (which Europe currently has more of than war-mongering, economically miserable, crime-laden, elderly-abusing, healthcare-neglecting, burpin', fartin', pickin', scratchin', redneck-infested 'Merica does at present), put down the keyboard and go directly to registration for Statistics 101, Biology 101, Epidemiology 101, and Economics 101. Throw in History 101 for giggles.

Nearly every single problem on this planet stems from overpopulation:

War? Supply and demand over resources.

Famine? Too many people competing for the same food, and too many parents having six or seven kids on a hedged bet that one will survive to adulthood.

Disease outbreak? Too many people too close together.

Crime? Too many people for too few employment opportunities.

Environmental degradation (including oil spills)? Too many consumers.

Road rage? Too many people on one road.

And your response is to continue to breed exponentially.

Unreal. Absolutely, positively unreal.

Ratzinger, that you?
I am Catholic and pretty damn proud to be one! I offer no apologies for that.

You act like I'm ignorant about population and environmental issues. My undergraduate major was in Geography. So I'm well schooled in demographics, economics, environmental systems, etc.

You should know that a declining population is just as dangerous and unsustainable as a exploding one. Just look at Eastern Europe, they are in a vicious cycle of poor health, low birth rates and a rapidly declining population. There is such a thing as population momentum and it works both ways. Eventually places like Eastern Europe will be totally deserted and depopulated. Is that what you want here? All you need to see is all the deserted places upstate and in parts of the midwest to see what our future looks like. Sure things look croded now because we still have large number of Hispanic immigrants coming into the region, however birth rates are falling quickly in Latin America too and soon enough (probably within 20 years or so) they will stop coming (I know for some of you immigrant haters this can't come soon enough)

Remember the people that think like you fit a certain demographic. Your kind will dissappear and those that will survive will be people like the Orthodox Jews, Fundamentalist Christians, Amish, Mormons, Muslims and other high fertility groups. People with your outlook will eventually fade away. I'm just telling the truth of what will happen. Numbers don't lie.

By the way in case you are wondering I have 2 children.

You majored in Geography. I never heard of anyone majoring in Geography. What does that prepare you for? What kind of job can you get...perhaps being one of Long Island's overpad teachers?

I never said we should reproduce exponentially, but you have a problem with even replacement level fertility. Some couples have to have more than 2 children to make up for those that don't have any children at all in order for the population to be stable over the long run. It's simple math.

It just shows how ignorant you are. You think its probably about discovering a new Island or something

You've completely owned her in every aspect of this debate and she keeps coming back for more... It's hilarious.

The point of my story for Home Depot is that you don't fill aisles with boxes and unpack them in the middle of a busy shopping day when adults even have a hard time getting through the crowd.
Actually, if you have small kids, you do not BRING THEM TO HOME DEPOT in the first place, for the exact reasons you stated. What do you want them to do, get hurt? You hold their hands 100% of the time, put them in a stroller, shopping cart, you name it, but they need to be controlled. Doesn't Home Depot have a sign in the entrance to the effect of "Keep an eye on your kids, it can be DANGEROUS in here" ?

Ouch. In general, that generalization fits. The "I'm too busy to realize that my kids MIGHT be bothering other people", but then, they are also the ones cutting in and out of traffic while talking on cell phones. You know, the ones without any personal responsibility

we never let the kids get out of hand or throw stuff around, run around in circles, etc. and they were taught that that kind of stuff wasn't acceptable... we always packed some sort of entertainment for them ... dolls, cars, etc. to keep them busy until the food came out.
I commend you - a sane, responsible way to raise your children.

If that were the case, wouldn't they have already taken over? Looking at history, those groups you cite usually have a high infant mortality, or worse, are in a violence-torn region where the overall effect is ... not a huge population boom, that's for sure.

On the other hand, I have to agree, white Anglo-Saxons better start breeding more, otherwise they will become instinct.

Almost four times that age. I thought more about my response, and decided his parents probably wouldn't care anyway, he had to learn that attitude from somewhere.

For the record, I have two children, both teenagers now, and one stepson I inherited in his pre-teens who is now a late-20's successful electrician.

None of them ever realized they COULD act up in a restaurant. Because they were taught quickly that it is not acceptable.
