Hi,

We are considering moving to northwestern pa next year. My husband is from Oil City and after living 20 years in South Carolina, he would like to move back. I have been a couple of times and the area is quite beautiful! We are going up in September and I would appreciate any info. We are looking for an area that has affordable housing. We do not want to be tied to another mortgage as we are trying to simplify our lives a bit. I will still need to work a few days per week ( medical assistant) so employment opportunities are a factor. I would really love to hear from people that live in the area. I have been doing some research on line but you really need to hear from the locals to get a good sense of a town. I thank all in advance for your time!!!

Make sure you have a job before making the move. Since you are in the medical field, that should be easier relative to a lot of other occupations. I'm thinking you're cost of living in that area shouldn't be too much different from SC, although I don't know where in SC you are now. Welcome to NW PA.
(My wife and I plan to retire to NC in about 2 years after having lived all our lives in PA).

I'm in Greenville, SC. North Carolina is beautiful, especially the mountain area. It can be a little expensive though. Thank you for your thoughts and the welcome!

I also like the OC area, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of jobs. There is a hospital in Seneca and I think Titusville has one. I am not sure if you know this, but the cost of living in PA is about 3x (or worse) what it is like in SC (I used to live in Clemson). So housing is affordable, but be careful of the additional costs. Also, the winters in NWPA can be extremely harsh so you might want to live close to where you work.

Hi Bob,
I wish we could move right now. Unfortunately, we are not quite ready. We haven't even put our house on the market yet. However, we are coming up sometime in August to start looking at the area. Is your house with a realtor? On a website? Let me know so I can take a look. I'm looking foward to the laid back sloowwww lifestyle. And the snow! And the cooler temps! And the wonderful, friendly people of the area.

I have been in and out of Oil CIty for 32 years. My mother grew up there and my grandmother is still there. I don't agree that housing is cheaper. Yes, some of the houses are cheaper but they require alot of work. My grandmothers house is over 100 years old. NO central air or central heat. For heat she has gas stoves. Can't even have a window unit so old. There isn't much crime but because it take awhile to get anywhere there is a higher drug problem but the education system is much better. They do have a great public transportation program. My cousins and I would often take the bus into Clarion to go to the mall. I love this area and try to visit once a year. If there were any jobs there I would move permanently. My uncle recently moved back and 1 year later he is moving back to Texas.

We are looking to move to the Titusville,PA area within the year and I am having a hard time finding classifieds for housing and jobs along with trying to find any information on the town. If anybody has any websites out there please let me know it would be very helpful! I am a nurse so it would be helpful to find hospital/clinic websites to find employment.
