Cameron County is a very small and there are not a lot of places to work. There are a few powered metal factories . Emporium is the largest town in the county and theres nothing there. If you want to live in the area I would suggest St Marys which has about 14000 People . There are alot of factories in st marys. They also have a 2 small commercial plazas and a supercenter wal-mart. Be warned that St Marys also has a major drug problem and small petty crimes are on the rise. You should be ablle to find a nice apartment for about $400-600 a months or a decent house for under $100 K. If i were you i would also look into Ridgway area or Du Bois but if you like seclusion Empourium is for you

Emporium Rox
It's a great place to have a vacation home if you have family in town, but if you're thinking about moving there and finding employment I agree with everyone else. St. Mary's is probably the place to go.

If anyone could help me determine the possibilities of employment here, or near this area, the probable income, and the type of employment that most of the general population have, I would be most appreciative. Also, does anyone know anything about the community, schools, people, etc. Thanks so much !

My parents are both originally from the small town of Emporium, and few members of the family still remain. Sylvania was once the top employer, which I believe is a steel factory now.
This is a great town, if you want the sense of community. It's our joke that The Sheets gas station is the Mall, and at one point there was only a flashing red light in the middle of town.
You should really check out The Cameron County Echo.

I'll save you a lot of aggravation......don't move to Emporium! It IS by all means a very picturesque area....however, that is allllllll that it has going for it. It is known as ZOMBIE TOWN from all the people on drugs and welfare central. Small minded/mean spirited people dwell there...

My in laws have a hunting cabin just outside of Emporium. I deer and turkey hunt around there. What everyone else said is accurate. St. Mary's has more to offer, plus the Straub Brewery and the eternal tap is there.

I grew up in Emporium and could not wait to get out. It's a beautiful location, but absolutely void of intellectual stimulation and living there is tantamount to a social, mental and economic death sentence. Dubois, St. Mary's and Bradford offer much more.

Emporium is very remote... With the Economy the way it is in that area, I would say employment will be very hard to find... I know the Powdered Metal Plant there is one of the better jobs. I would suggest an area Closer to Dubois, Brookville or Clarion, I lived outside of Emporium for a few years working at a Natural Gas Pipeline Station... I moved for a number of reasons, but one of them high on the list was it was Remote!!! If you have any further questions please feel free to e-mail me... Mike
