Greenville SC Vs Erie PA
I had possible job offers from both places with similar salary. What will you choose? I like fishing, but the 24 inches snow in Erie scares me. Is the snow a big problem? Share your experience.
Thanks,

Sc
I have not been to Erie, but the stories of their cold and snow would keep me away. All that "lake effect snow"......I just am not the happy, long winter person.
However, I do love SC. I find it great in the winters as you still can roam about doing your outside enjoyments. You can still golf, bike ride, hike, FISH, and not worry about the cold, snowing, shut-in winter days.
I love the SC people, finding them friendly and kind.
Unless you are a winter type person...........liking all that goes with that season. I'd be heading to SC.......personally, myself, it wouldn't even have been a "which one" .........I'd be packing for the southern locale.

I'm not sure where you heard about 24 inches of snow in Erie but for the entire winter I'm sure it's more accurately measured in feet rather than inches. One of my best friends went to college in Erie and the locals called Erie "the mistake on the lake".
On the flip side, from what I know of Greenville, SC you'd have nice winters but hot, HUMID summers.
Given the options, I know I'd prefer Greenville to Erie, but that's just me.

The snow isn't a problem. Everyone in town is used to it, takes up ice fishing, sledding, and skiing, and gets along accordingly.
Summers are short, but they're beautiful and not too hot. Lake Erie provides recreation year-round.

Erie hasn't had a bad winter in awhile.
Oh the stories I could tell.
I've lived here mostly all my life, with a few forays here and there. The last few years have been nothing. Of course, in Erie terms, a foot of snow overnite is "nothing". How good are your driving skills? Here you will learn how to fishtail a car up a hill with parked cars on each side, learn what it means to "be able to get a good run" and be amazed at how quickly an interstate can disappear.
With that being said....you do get used to it. If you do not like snow do not bother coming here. Snow and cold and SHOVELING SNOW are a fact of life.We DO get tremendous snows from time to time...and yes....in feet....not inches. But for the most part, this town keeps going. It's best to have 4WD. Main roads are generally good but side streets can go days between getting plowed. If you live in the suburbs where they really get the snow you almost have to have 4WD.
Yep....mistake on the lake and "dreary erie" are what we call it here.
There is not much to do unless you like to drink. Alot.
They try with culture but just can't seem to get it right.
The job situation is bad. I would venture a guess you are with G.E.? Whoever you take with you, if you do, will not find much paying well outside of medical or state jobs....and there is alot of competition for the state jobs.
Public transportation is a joke and even getting a cab can take over an hour if you call on the wrong times.
Fishing though is outstanding and if you have a boat Erie is a hell of a good time. Except that the lake is rather shallow and a storm can kick up monster waves in no time.I have been in situations where a 2 foot chop turned into 6 foot rollers in an hour. Boaters drown here ALL the time. This ain't no southern bass lake.
There are big walleye here. "Uncle Walters" we call them. But really you need a boat for them, especially in the summer when they move out to the trenches. My personal best is 33 inches. Bass are fantastic (especially now) and perch are a great time for the kids. And the Steelhead runs. There is some awesome musky action just south of here. When it snows, we ice fish. Yep.....fishing is awesome here! So what you like to fish for should be a consideration.
good luck.

My father went to college outside of Erie...He said one year it snowed 65 days in a row there...To sum it up I'd say...
S.C-Warm
Erie-Cold
S.C.-mid sized growing city
Erie-larger but shrinking city
Greenville- d-1 sports colleges
Erie- Anyone down for a friday at veteran's stadium? GO RAMBLERS! haha...
S.C.- St Francis Fall for Greenville, artisphere
Erie- Zabawa, Zabawa, Zabawa
Give me "dreary Erie" anyday over carolina.

Personally if I were to choose,I would choose Erie,I've lived in NW Pa. most of my life and currently live in SC. I just don't care for SC myself and yes I'm moving soon.I do like the weather here though.

My decision is Erie. Thank you for all the replies.
I want to see how much snow by myself and how much fish I can catch.
WAZEAZ, thank you very much. I heard a few people transferred from transporation to energy. I may do that if I change my mind.
