well there are some good school districts out there, lots of newer housing developments. It's a much more quieter life out that way but still not to far from the civilization. PErsonal choice I like oxford and west grove more than kennett square.

Hi MetMom,
Southern Chester County is really nice in my opinion. My wife and family just moved here in Jun 06 and so far it is great. We moved from Northern New Jersey where everyone is on top of eachother. Here it is quite the opposite. You might want to check out www.sochesco.com to get more information about the area and chat with some of the locals. Good luck and if you have any more questions, post back please.

The tax situation bears your due diligence. Do your own research so you can say you checked. As per my member name we are out of here as soon as I can make it happen.
Problems (oxford/west grove) sewerage, town councils run by people with a 6th grade education, school boards with illiterate people running for school board posts, tax increases every year, some of the worst township managment I have ever seen, the smell of manure that you just can't shake off (kennett)
google some things and ask aboutn the taxes. Draw your own conclusions.
For my tax dollar its not worth it and won't be for another decade that it will take for educated, non crony, decdent government to run southern chester county.
Love my house, hate where it is.

Well, I guess its all about where you come from. Coming from North Jersey, its quite a different world in Southern Chester County. The gov't there is well educated but corrupt!

Penciltucky, come post on my forum over on SoChesco.com! Seems like you would be a great poster!

kennett square is nice but depending on where you live there are a lot of migrant mushroom farm workers there one elementary school mary delang i believe has a problem with this because many people do not speak english..they are both alright areas nonetheless. they are very rural though urban sprawl has developed kennett a bit more than 10 years ago. if you can afford it jump over to west bradford which is in the downingtown sd or chaddsford which is even better and closer to civilization

We considered DE County as well as Unionsville Chadds Ford, but it was very costly there. We live just south of West Grove and between Oxford and Kennett Square. We don't get the mushroom smell here because we are closer to DE/MD borders, but we still get the beautiful rolling hills and open space!

Urban sprawl is defintely on its way, but it will take a lot of time, as Penciltucky states, there are sewage issues in some of the towns, and regulation after regulation according to some newer business owners, but I imagine in 10 years, things will be quite different.

Hi. I live in Oxford. We love it here. We do have our kids in private school however there are a lot of folks who say the schools have improved a lot and are very happy with them. OUr house is on 1 acre and assessed at $310 and we pay approx $4500 in taxes a year (school, county, twp). To me it's a steal since we were paying over 5K in Aston (Delaware county) for a townhouse with a postage stamp sized yard.
Someone mentioned Chadds Ford.........it's lovely there and Unionville/Chadds Ford schools have a great rep - but RE is pricey and taxes are high.
West Grove does get a manure smell. Bothers me but I know people who live there and say they don't even notice it now. We don't get the smell in Oxford. West Grove I would say would be considered a little step above Oxford. Just my opinion though.
I like the area because it is far enough removed from the hustle and bustle but still close enough to places you would need to go.
Let me know if there is anything I can answer for you.
