Exclamation NY - No!

We just moved to Pike County to escape the exorbitant taxes we were paying in Orange County - Washingtonville Schools, Town of New Windsor. We didn't even have any services (water, sewer, garbage, not even bulk pick up) and were paying close to 9k for a bilevel on a 1.3 acre lot. Our electricity was higher, gasoline, propane, tax on clothing...on and on. We're now paying about 1/2 that in a gated community with TONS of amenities. I would steer clear of NY unless you have bottomless pockets. The people here - well, MOST of the people are SO friendly - excluding some others that also escaped from NY but retained their attitudes.
I realize that prices will go up here also - but by that time arrives, we'll be retired down in the Carolinas or living out of an RV

I have to laugh at that comment I'm looking to move either to pike or wayne counties in the next 2 years maybe and wondered about the "escapees" as well. Not the NY's but the suburbanites outside of philly where I am which is why I want to get out of here
