A GOOD PLACE TO BE
Midstate folks should fare OK in a recession
Friday, February 08, 2008
BY DAN MILLER
Of The Patriot-News
If the country slides into a recession this year, be glad you're here.
"Central Pennsylvania might outperform the U.S. economy over the next year or two," said Jay Bryson, a Lancaster native and global economist with Wachovia Corp.
Bryson, who gave a speech Thursday to business people in Grantville, sees a 50 percent chance of recession nationwide this year. Two months ago, he predicted a 40 percent chance. But economic reports since then have been "weaker than expected," he said.

He's always super-nice to me whenever I stop in for a small stromboli or slices of pizza at lunchtime. The only problem I have with Mama's Pizza is I like to call ahead when I want to get a stromboli, and it can be hit or miss that they'll get the order right (no mushrooms) or put it in the oven before I get there, depending on who answers the phone.

I've never been there, but I heard it's the most authentic Italian pizza in this area. Have you been to Nonna's Deli in midtown yet?

Nope, haven't been there yet.
A lot of people like Palumbo's Pizza, which is also downtown, but I like Mama's much better.

Western municipalities brace for development
By Jim T. Ryan

Deerfield Estates is the largest residential development in Southampton Township, with 733 total housing units — 119 of which are under construction. Photo/Amy Spangler
For about a decade, development in Cumberland County tended to happen mainly between Camp Hill and Carlisle. As that area has become built up, businesses and residential developers looked beyond Carlisle for new opportunities. The result is a wave of development heading west across the county, more or less following the path of Interstate 81.

Harrisburg high-rise gets another nod from city
By Eric Veronikis
2/26/2008
The Harrisburg Zoning Hearing Board last night approved a Harrisburg development group's bid to develop a $35 million building that will include office, retail and parking space at 210 N. Second Street.
The developer, 210 North Second Street Associates, will soon submit its land development plans to City Council for final approval, said Andrew J. Giorgione, a partner of the development group. Giorgione said he expects council to vote on plans next month.
The developer hopes to break ground on the 18-story, 200,000-square-foot structure in the next eight to nine months and open in the fall of 2010, Giorgione said.
Plans for a section of the building at North Second and Locust streets have been modified to meet standards set forth by the Harrisburg Architectural Review Board. The building would incorporate extensive amounts of brick, glass and steel. It would rise 240 feet and include a rooftop bar, Giorgione said.

It's good to see harrisburg growing, since that'll help the surrounding areas as well.
Not to mention the more big buildings the better, cause harrisburg skyline is bleh when it comes to style.

Yes, I agree about the skyline. It'll be nice to have a tall glass building rather than the pre-cast concrete that almost every new building has been built with since the 1950's.
