Default former P.A. resident, now in Jersey - PA Gambling to surpass NJ?

Gambling in Pennsylvania could surpass Atlantic City, analyst says | NJ.com

what do P.A. residents think about this? good for business? or bad for the localities that now have casinos? just curious what the thoughts are back home!

Possibly the casinos in AC can hand out free drinks and that's illegal in PA. I think a good percentage of our casino taxes go toward helping out senior citizens. I went to AC before the casinos and liked it a lot. Gambling isn't alluring to some of us so I kind of don't care.

I go to AC once a year more to enjoy the ocean than to gamble. I might go to the Poconos once a year in the fall, but gambling seems to be about all you can do up there. At least AC has some shops and the boardwalk plus many restaurants.
I'm also tempted to go to Philly's casino to get a bus ride down and walk over to Independance Hall but it being Philly and the area its in being pretty dicey crime wise, I'm hesitant. Pa has lots of older resistants who like to gamble and the Poconos are a shorter trip than all the way down to the shore or over to Connecticut.

Your 3rd and 4th sentences I agree with: I like AC, and gambling isn't alluring to all of us and I really don't care.

Your 1st and 2nd sentences are wrong. There are some casinos in PA that hand out free drinks. I believe all casinos in PA that do not have racetracks can provide free drinks - if I'm wrong someone correct me. Also, none of the casino taxes go toward helping senior citizens, at least not directly. The casino taxes go toward reducing property taxes. The anti-casino and anti-Rendell contingent will tell you that the property tax savings are peanuts, but I'm glad we finally have full-fledged casinos.

I do feel, though, that we are basically saturated at this point and we don't need anymore casinos. Certainly not in the Philadelphia region. I'm OK with the small casino that's going in at King of Prussia, but it seems that Philadelphia's second casino (not yet built) is unnecessary at this point.
