Arrow Looking for a remote home in Forest Co. Penn.

Does anyone have any info on remote properties in Forest County PA? We are ready to retire and are sick of living in Allentown. We love to camp and spent one year in Maine without elec or running H2O and loved it, but the winters there just are too cold and long for these old bones. We don't mind a "handyman's special"; we just want to get back to nature and live our lives in a quiet, peaceful setting. We love PA, but Allentown and Bethlehem have changed so much over the years! It's just plain city living now. I want to be able to look up at night and see the stars again! Please leave a post if you think you can help us find what we're looking for... Btw, we do not want to be in an area that is overly religious, as we have our own private views on that subject!

Just about any place you choose to live in Forest county is remote. You should not have any peoblem at all finding something to suit your needs. (FYI the lehigh valley was way to urban for me, even back 16 years ago when we moved).

Go to Forest County - Home and look on the Business Listing pages for realtors in Forest County. The other reply was absolutely correct, just about everywhere here is remote, but there are everything from small towns of 500 +/- to no one else for miles. Our population density is about 11 people per square mile! As far as religion, you will find a mix here including all denominations but also atheists, but you are not pressured to join them if you politely tell them "thank you for the invitation". Call any of the realtors or call / visit us at the Visitor Center in Tionesta for help and more info. We would love to have you retire here!

Thank you for the info! We are looking forward to retiring and Forest County is so beautiful! We came over this past weekend and were very impressed. We can't wait to get out of Allentown, (the "city life" is just too much for us anymore) and I thank you for the info about the religious climate. I asked about this because of a friend who moved to a remote part of WVA who is constantly assaulted by people who want to "save" him, and my husband was worried that we might run into the same sort of trouble - I told him rural PA wasn't like that - after all, PA is quite a step up from WVA. (My Hubby thinks I'm a bit biased because PA is my home but really, have you ever been anywhere better?) The people we met over the weekend were very welcoming, kind and helpful, and we're planning another trip next week. What a wonderful area to retire to for peace and quiet, with nature all around. And I think it will be very good for our grandchildren to see something different from Philly when they come to visit. Thanks again for the info!

Yea, I have a place in Cook Forest, don't expect it to be a heatwave!

As for places to look for in that area, Cook Forest does get really touristy in the summer, so if you're looking for truly remote living I wouldn't recommend it. Although, its still very rural and very peaceful, especially when you're off the main roads. The nice thing about Cook Forest is you're still close enough to Clarion when you need to go some "real" civilization.

If you're looking for something truly remote, try something in the northern part of the county. Up near Kelletville, there's nothing but logging roads for miles and in some places you're miles away from your closest neighbor. A lot of that area is part of the Allegheny National Forest, so I don't know what is available that way. I agree with others, check out things in Tionesta, if you want to live in that part of the county.
