It'd take decades to reconstruct everything, but not to make the list. Really, 90 percent of all the functionally obsolete designs are on those four segments of Interstate that I've mentioned before.

True, making the list itself would take about 10 seconds. You might add a couple of interchanges on I-90 to that list, because some of those exit/entrance ramps are just too danged short. It's not as dysfunctional as the others, though.

But ripping up the Schuylkill, for starters, and starting over ... oy.

Not everything worth doing will be easy. Philadelphia's primary highway needs to be modern, as does Pittsburgh's (I-376).

Pa doesnt need new highways. The only way 76 will be improved is tolls. It was built prior to tje federal 90/10 match program and reflects some semblance of cost consciousness. Before spending those bullions id like to see some improvement in intercity rail

I have traveled Pennsylvania's backroads inches off the ground on my motorcycle. Roads looked like they were paved yesterday. And I am talking about roads in the most remote places. Rt. 36 from Punxsutawney to Altoona was heavenly.

I'm not talking about building new highways. I'm talking about improving existing highways. The Schuylkill Expressway is in desperate need of improvement from a design standpoint, and so is I-376 through Pittsburgh.

I was agreeing with you. the only way the schuylkill is going to get fixed is if it's tolled.

I wonder at the logic that the pa turnpike would be paid off and free. how can a road ever be free unless someone else is paying for it? roads are in constant need of maintenance and improvements. tolling is an excellent answer to that. Of course, using tolls to pay for all kinds of other stuff isn't necessarily a good idea. tolling 80 isn't a bad idea if it's to pay for its maintenance but tolling it as a transportation policy to raise other money is what killed the idea.
