We want to see Fallingwater on our way back to North Carolina. we will be crossing into Pennslyvania at Stubenville, Ohio on US 22. What is the best route from there to Fallingwater with a 12K pound 5th wheel?
We are looking at either :

I-79 south from Pittsburgh to Washington then I-70 east to SR 201 to Connellsville where it becomes SR 711 to SR 381.

Or jumping SR 18 south right out of Ohio to Washington.

Is one better than the other or is there a better route than either one we are looking at?

THANKS

Your post would do better in the Pittsburgh forum.

Actually; here is a link to their website: http://www.wright-house.com/frank-lloyd-wright/fallingwater/map-and-directions.html
It has a “For tour information, call 724-329-8501.” It also has an online route planner.

If I was in your shoes; I would call somebody there and ask for directions for your RV. I used to drive truck and PA has many roads that only legally allow 96 inch wide vehicles. Most of the newer motor homes are 102 inches wide. I think that our state probably turns a blind eye to it’s own regulations (especially for RV’s and tow behind trailers) - unless there is and accident. You also want to make sure you do not have any step grades to pull that might overheat your vehicle. Also check for any height restrictions.

Anyway; good luck and have a safe trip.

I also wanted to warn you about Cumberland MD. If, after you visit Fallingwater you go south on SR 381 to Route 40 East (which then turns into I68); be prepared for the hill. You will encounter a 13 mile downhill stretch going into Cumberland. Hopefully your brakes are great and your trailer is not too heavy. This hill dwarfs Fancy Gap on Route 77 going back into NC.

The Cumberland police used to sit at the bottom and wait for big trucks smoking their brakes. They caught enough of them!
