Pottsville PA a good place to live
I recently moved here to Pottsville from Lancaster County. This is a nice little city. Some new businesses are opening up on Centre Street which is our "downtown" area. A couple of weeks ago was the Pottsville Cruise and that was enjoyable as well. The high school is reputable as well and they have a killer foot ball team and also cross country team (I'm partial since my kids are running XC). But I'm writing this so that other people from out of the area aren't intimidated and turned off by other's comments about life in Pottsville. I live here NOW and I love it. I've lived in Bucks County and also in Lancaster County. This area is different but it is GOOD and I recommend it to anyone. I can walk almost anywhere safely. There are many lovely churches. One can also enjoy the library here- ; it is full of resources and the building is a gorgeous 4 story brick structure. Also I notice that the Maroon sports bar and grill is undergoing an extensive renovation and it looks like it will be a posh place to eat, drink, and socialize with class (not just any old watering hole). Oh, and last week my husband and I ate at the GreyStone restaurant; that was a top of the line meal. GreyStone is great place for a romantic dinner, take a date or a group of snooty relatives from out of town. Top line food and drink. Anyway, if there is anything else you would want to know, email me. I am all for Pottsville and I thought I should spread the good word!

Pottsville IS a nice place. I lived there for several years afer college. I left to pursue a job opportunity. I lived over by the high school. It is different from many other places. It is a place with a unique charm all of its own. I used to marvel at the homes on Mahantongo ("Mocky") Street. The courthouse is a masterpiece, as well. You're right--the Greystone is a classy place. Maroons was nice the first time around, it will be interesting to see what it is like when it reopens. We also can't forget the regional foods--bleenies, blind pigeons, city "chicken", boilo, halushki...yum! If you like sausage, be sure to try Kowalneks in Shenandoah. And for discounted produce, there is Bill's in Schuylkill Haven. And of course there are the block parties. But there's more to Pottsville than great food. It is the people that make it a nice place. I've never seen people go to such lengths to help complete strangers. Some of the friendliest people I know are in the Pottsville area. All the best to you. Roll, Tide!

Hey the Pottsville Maroons were the first championship Pa professional football team, beating the Chicago Bears back in the 30s. That stinks that they had their title taken away on a technicality over an exhibition game. Good football town.

Moving from one place to another. Anywhere appears to be a nice place compared to where they lived. . Give it time.. Pottsville will show its true colors shortly. Open your eyes wide and you will see ....Bar/ Church Bar/ Church Bar/ Church. I think you get the message. Take a walk downtown on any warm day. You will see teenage girls with babies everywhere.. I think its actually Pottsville's motto:
Kids having kids since 1851. My dad grew up in Pottsville during the late 40's. The population was around 30,000 give or take. Now it is 14,400. Since the year 2000, population growth(or shrinkage) has been -5.83% annually.. Why is that? Could it be the 10.5% unemployment figure? Could it be that there is no industry here? (besides beer-of course) Could it be that to do anything interesting or go to a decent restaurant, you need to travel 35 miles south to Reading? Hmmm Could be....
Take it for whatever you think it may be. But trust me, its not.

They are there and make up about 2-3% of the city's population. Not sure about treatment though.
