Best time in the morning to commute to N.Y.
What is the best time of the morning to commute to N.Y. using Route 22 and 78? During what times in the morning are route 22 and 78 congested? I plan to commute to N.Y. from Bethlehem around 4 am. Are these routes congested at this time?

Sounds like you should be ahead of the crowd from what I hear.
Winter might be rough though, save your personal days

4 a.m. should be fine (although I second the hint about the winter weather....). When my brother was doing this commute, if he got on the road anytime after 5:45 from East Stroudsburg it was not a good ride.

You should have no problem at all on rt 78 or 22 at 4am. I made this trip for 7 years and the traffic starts around 5:15 am .

That is good news to me. My commute to New York will always be around that time. By the way, how efficient is the snow removal on Route 22 and 78 from Bethlehem to New York during and after a snow storm? Just curious.

Actually at that hr the traffic is just starting to build and there usually isn't that many back ups. I found if I was on rt 78 by5:30 the traffic was heavy but moving. Problems start at sunrise on the hills heading east right out of Pa heading into NJ. Once the sun pokes over the hill , the sunglare starts the back up. If you are past rt 287 befor sun up (depending on the time of year) its no problem. As far as clearing snow they do ok but it varries from just ok to bad. My hour and a half trip along 78 has turned into 3 1/2 hrs during a light snow storm. Best advice if its snowing, stay home. Hope this helps.
