Urban Sprawl is a fact of life. We are producing more humans than are dying. We have a finite amount of land (until we take over the middle east ). I understand the want for keeping sprawl out.

My father and mother grew up on Farms in Illinois and NC respectively. My father is part of the farm land trust which trys to save farms from developers.

MD residents have every right to move where ever they please. Free country and all. People being pissed about them moving here need to realize it is the 21st century. While it is nice to have small towns, the suburbs are here to stay.

If PA farmers dont have a voice in the state congress, then they are stupid. The problem with people yelling to stay out is

1) it doesnt work

2) you should be spending that energy trying to change the development laws in PA.

In conclusion, your hate doesnt change a thing. Your college education, social status, or where you were born doesnt change a thing. Only you can change things.

So be proactive. Smart growth is a great principle, but in reality it is almost impossible to achieve. Because you cannot completely cap growth, b/c ammendments and the need for growth will always out weigh the concerns of the few who have spoken.

It is all futile if you dont walk the walk. Just like sherly crow who suggested we all need to do our part by limiting out toilet paper usage to one square. Saying this from he 3 tour bus entourage which produces enough carbon dioxide to kill a flock of geese.
Seriously.. you think that farmers would have more power than maryland developers (that's where the majority are from)? Money talks.

No, I don't think they have more power, but if they dont have a voice and demand to be heard then they are just sitting by while the developers run rampant. Then they dont have a right to complain.

In MD, there is the farm land trust. The state has adopted a license plate that has a farm on it and money from purchasing it goes towards a trust.

I just get annoyed when people say save the farms but the farmers themselves dont do anything about it.

But I should have prefaced it by bolding the word IF.... i am not sure if they do or they dont have a voice in PA stater or local congress.

to some degree the people in the developments are the enemy, i do recognize that it is the lawmakers and the developers who are the "problem" as i call it. For example though, in Glen Rock there is a hog farm, its been there for years, then they built a development near it, and now the people living there are complainging about the smell, and a petition is going around, honestly does that make sense

They do voice their oppinions. Why do you think the casino got so much opposition? A large portion of that was farmers. But when it comes to development, it's pretty much inevitable because unlike maryland, PA dosen't have any laws in which the township can refuse development, the most they can do is hope to make enough of a headache by critiquing water and sewer plans that the developer gives up, which is very rare.

There is land trust stuff here too, but it's not perfect and there are a lot of stipulations.

If you think the farmers don't do anything, you are sadly mistaken.

I need to say a few things about this topic that are good and bad. I am a PA native that moved to Maryland to find work, good paying IT work is hard to come by in PA. I must say that the first two years down in MD was terrifying. There are people doing 30+ over the speed limit swerving in and out of lanes of traffic. The roads, some of the roads down here make PA roads look look outstanding! Do some PA people dislike marylanders, short answer YES and I'm one of them. It kills me to see all the crap from Maryland slowly filtering up in to PA.

Wow, this is unreal.

First, there is nothing in your post that is good.

Second, YOU come to MD to find a job and then have the audacity to say you dislike Marylander's moving to PA and refer to them as "crap"? Your attitude relects that of a thief with a self righteous complex.

And sure, there are some folks no matter where they originate from, who aren't so nice, but to lump all Marylander's as those "who drive 30 mph swerving in and out of traffic", reflects that of a very immature individual.

Just to let you know too, Maryland is a transient state. Most of the folks pissing you off down here probably aren't even from here. Matter of fact, it could be someone who moved from PA to get money, and you wouldn't know, would you??

Please note that I did not say everyone in maryland. But when you come from an area that when you want to properly pass someone on the highway they get out of your way and NOT stomp on the brakes or though orange soda at your car! Look there a jerks everywhere you go but down here it seems that there not the minority. I must admit though I've been cut off by more people with VA tags. I don't know maybe I need to move to the western portion of this state

I need to ask very serious question though, please don't get upset. Where did people learn to merge on to a highway down here? I learned to let people in not block them. I case anyone in here hasn't got the hint I'm not a fan of driving down here.
