Lightbulb KUDOS!!!!The reason we live here is because we like it the way it is.

[quote=Marodi;1389778]You don't get it. The people that have lived there are content with their jobs. Biglerville for example. Small town, 2 traffic lights and just over 1000 people. Then some developer decided he wants to take a nice 200-300 acre farm and make it into houses, so now the brand new school is going to have to get an expansion to accomodate (Property taxes only covers 3/8 of the education costs so that's gonna have to go up). Don't make some accusation that people in rural areas are unhappy, and I think you'd find the opposite especially in comparison to cities, having lived in rural, rurban and city/suburban.

The reason the people live in rural PA is because they like it. Do you honestly think people wouldn't live there if the hated it? Seriously, use some common sense on that one. Who cares if an area has a "future"? What makes you happy is what's important, and these people like rural, then people decide to shaft the locals by only thinking of themselves.[/quote

They are in for a rude awakening really soon..the bottom did not stop dropping out yet,,but it is going to soon.
It is about everyone wanting to keep up that high end lifestyle..not enough, they want more farms, so they can get more cars, jewelry for their 6 kids and pay for a rolex.GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM!!!!
The worst part of it for me to see ,is when they hack down a forest.
Believe it or not I am a conservative but I have seen so much destruction here it makes me sick.
The influx of out of towners in some parts has made the crime rate soar to levels never seen before.
Then theres the sprawl..what is so stinking pretty about a house that is made to look LIKE EVERY HOME NEAR IT!!!!!UUGH.
You know that there are less people having children now ,than years ago ..and there are tons of beautiful homes ALREADY THERE ON THE MARKET.
Some of these homes are REAL TRUE masonry and honest to goodness construction that will last for decades. Not slapped togeither in the few weeks that I personally have seen them do!!If you think I am kidding ..try going down to Hershey..route 743 OR WORSE route 39!!! IT IS DISGUSTING!!!
It is gone. The only land left in that area is what the Hershey company OWNS..they have put it in a trust JUST TO GET THEM OUT.
So if you want to move here to Pennsylvania, waste gas,and extrude space,I suggest you look into buying one of those.
But don't be surprised if your taxes are high, maybe years ago they were less, but as everyone keeps piling in they go UP UP UP!!!!!
My family members are paying well over 5000 dollars on their homes.
And don't even get started on the gun issue,,this is one state where we value our right to shoot our shotgun out back!!
That goes double for the ANTI SMOKERS.
GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM AND LET US ALONE!!!

Gretchen, you have to be kidding right?

When did your family move to PA?

They had to at one point, unless you are Native American, we all moved here at one point.

So I will say to you the same thing... go back where you came from. Why do you think you have the privledge of telling people to move, you should take your own advice.

I started a new thread called PA Developers and Out of towners...

There is a link to the York Daily Record report called Greater York, Still at Risk.

Check it out.

I live in PA, and I hate coming back here after I've visited Md. The road gets narrow and bumpy as soon as you cross the state line. But the same thing could be said about entering PA from any bordering state.

Default Calm down!!!

The people from MD do have a right to be here. Why isnt the moving of NJ/Ny to Alantown or Philly being an issue? They are driving up costs but thats what Pa needs. We have to be forced to change with the times. Delta is going to be one of the fastest growing cities this year. I'm a real estate agent and I have noticed that there are a lot of homes for sale by people that moved here from MD. Pa needs some diversity although I do agree with the fact that its nice to see the country but we have to face the facts we cant live in a hole all of our lives. We need more industry to survive. Plants and factorys can't last forever here due to outsourcing. We need to focus on those lovely farms and how many illegal immigrants they have working there without paying taxes and driving up the cost of living! Im hispanic and i'm not racist at all its just a fact.

Whenever I am driving through PA or whenever I see someone with a PA license plate I wonder if they realize that the left lane is for passing. You are suppose to pass and get over. At least PA drivers are not as bad as Virginia drivers because they never get over!

If you don't want to live in a 'hole', then don't. Don't force change on those that don't want it. And the whole NY/NJ thing to northern PA, the only reason why I don't gripe about that is because it dosen't affect me.

Illegals aren't the reason the taxes are going up in South central PA. It's because of the state becoming a bedroom community. And this area is orchard country too.

I'll be the first to agree that PA doesn't have the nation's best roads, but I know that at least on I-95 coming in from Delaware, the PA roads are marginally BETTER once you cross the state line. I think PENNDOT has actually been doing a better job over the past few years, at least in Southeastern PA.

I moved to PA because I had to so I could buy a house. I was born and raised in Caroll County, MD, but could afford a house there because they are only building houses that are $350,000 and up. They aren't on sprawling lots either. They are squeezed in any place they can get them. Those people are busy with careers so they dont want a big yard to mow. I don't live closer to my work because I work around Baltimore, and want to be as far away from there as possible when I'm not at work. I also like that I have over a 1/2 acre to enjoy. My house is an existing house that is 25 years old, so I consider myself someone who isn't adding to the development that is springing up all over.
The people who are complaining that the Marylanders are coming up here and causing all the development and cost of living increases should look around and see that people are complaining of that everywhere. That was my complaint when I lived in Carroll County. I was born and raised there, but couldnt even afford to buy a house where I grew up because I couldnt afford it. It's not just a PA thing, or even a Maryland thing. It's all over the country....a thing called greed and money. Nobody is content with doing a job and making a little money. They all want to make alot of money and have a big house, as well as all the toys, and cars. I just have a 2 bedroom house on a little over a 1/2 acre. All I want to do is have my own little piece of land with a house, a job that allows me to pay my bills, and my health so I can live to be 93 like my grandmother did.
