Go back to where you came from? So..... no one should leave their place of birth? I have never heard of this mentality before. We currently live in Minnesota (not in the town of my birth) and have moved around a bit. I think it is good to move where you can get a job! Sure beats being unemployed!

I have never, ever heard of this type of attitude I've seen in some of these PA threads about people not moving in. I am choosing to believe that it is just a few minds that work this way rather than the majority...especially since we are moving out there in 2 weeks due to a new job.

As far as the greed thing....having money doesn't make you greedy. Greed is in the heart, so is jealousy and covetiveness.

I hope our neighbors and new town welcome my family

Yes, these boards are by no means representative of your average Pennsylvanian. Many people just use this forum as a place to vent, which unfortunately leaves potential transplants with a negative expectation. You always have to take anyone's personal accounts -- especially online -- with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, people from all kinds of backgrounds continue to move to PA, and I wish you all the best with your relocation.

Agreed. I wouldn't worry about it at all. The comment about staying where you live is not representative of anyone in PA that I know.

Thank you! My dh has already moved there and started his new job and has found the people he works with to be very kind and welcoming. I bet the kids and I will have the same experience when we join him out there.

The PA forum is the epitome of the average Pennsylvanian. Or at least half of them.

I agree, most people either don't care, or absolutely hate the migrating, but i'd say that surely its not a minority who is opposed to it. It reminds of that episode of south park where all the rich people move to south park, except the class isn't that large, although the jobs are very different, most people moving in are white collar and the majority of pa is blue collar, really alot of culture clashing going on.

I've read many of the opinions here and I must say it's sad how we tear each other apart. One thing that many people lack is common sense. If you're in DC, make sure you can keep up! I live in Adams County, and yes, I like the "setting" but I don't always like the pace. But, for some areas, it's the safest pace. However, if I go to DC I make sure I move w/ the flow. If I go to Baltimore, in the city, I keep up w/ traffic. I kind of like the quick pace. What people are doing though, both Marylanders and Pennsylvanians, are assuming that all of PA is about country and farmers and that MD is all about fast paced city people. Has anyone every heard of Harrisburg and Philly? Plus, there is beautiful land and gorgeous homes, small and large, throughout MD. I sincerely believe people need to hold their governments more accountable for taxing. Whether "out-of-staters" move into another state or not, Government has a way of adding/increasing taxes.

Bottom line, open your mind, relax a little and w/out sounding like some goofy, mushy, something or other....be kind to each other. We're all from the same earth.

Western Pennsylvania as well. I've driven I-79 through Greene, Washington, Allegheny, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer Counties, and I-80 though Mercer, Venango, Butler, Clarion, Jefferson, Clearfield and Centre Counties, and the roads were smooth.

Pennsylvania has tipped over to positive on the domestic migration chart within the last few years, so however few people there are who have a "go back to where they came from" mentality can rightly go to Hell.
