Pretty cool stuff, basically it finds that PA really is all about Pittsburgh.
The saying is true, outside of the Delaware Valley and Leigh Valley, PA is all about Pittsburgh or in NEPA's case, metro-NYC.

You know it's true when they find:

Quote:
A third of Pennsylvanians root for the Pirates to 27% for the Phillies, with
9% for the New York Yankees and five other teams at 5% or less.
Yankees .................................................. ........ 9%
Pirates .................................................. .......... 33%
Phillies .................................................. .......... 27%
Quote:
Almost half (49%)
cheer for the Steelers, versus 20% for the Eagles, with six teams at 6% or less.
PPP surveyed 500 Pennsylvania voters from November 17th to 20th.

Eagles............................................ ................. 20%
Steelers.......................................... ................. 49%

This is even cooler:

Quote:
Very Liberal Somewhat Liberal Moderate Somewhat Conservative Very Conservative
Yankees: 9% 8% 4% 9% 16%
Pirates: 22% 33% 36% 37% 30%
Phillies: 36% 33% 26% 23% 22%

Pirates=55% liberal, 36% moderate, 67% conservative
Phillies=68% liberal, 26% moderate, 45% conservative
More on page 5.

So basically, it's true.
PA is basically Pittsburgh+Pennsyltucky vs. Philly
and Pittsburgh fans are much more conservative.

Or, basically PA-minus the DE/LE Valley=WV.

I wonder how many people rooted for the Steelers before they started winning again?

I also wonder how many Steelers fans know that the team you root for was originally the Eagles, until we switched franchises.

So really, it's all about the Eagles on both sides of PA

steagles?
actually, the phillies have a fairly large base in lancaster county as well, but the philly teams will always be hamstrung by geography with a significant portion of their base in other states (delaware and nj). still, I wonder about this poll, the pirates? I don't know if I believe it.

Pennsyltucky has plenty of Orioles and Raven fans since Baltimore is closer than Philly.

speaking of fans, if the bucs are so popular, why are their seats empty?

Yeah isn't that a shame, PNC Park is probably one of the nicest ballparks around too.

yes, no doubt. like the steagles, if you combine the phillies and citizens bank park interior with pnc park's location and generally nicer external architecture (edge goes to the bank in beer selection and seating capacity) you have it all. ; )

I find it hard to believe only 20% are iggles fans. They sure make a lot of noise for such a small number.
